Makeup Review: E.L.F.'s Mineral Concealer

TommiH
Hey there everyone! I have a new product that I wanted to talk about with you. Today we are going to take a look at E.L.F.'s mineral concealer. During this review we will take a look at the packaging, coloring, texture, coverage, application life.

Let's get started!

Packaging:
There is not a whole lot to go over in this area. The concealer comes in a clear-plastic casing with a black screw on lid that reads "elf". There is a sifter within the casing to help limit the amount your brush takes on. Simply tap the product a couple times, swirl the brush around in what's in the sifter, and apply to your needed areas. There is no applicator or personal mirror with this casing.

There is plenty of product for what it's worth. You only need a little bit on your brush and you're good to go. I would suggest using a smaller brush (kind of like a small eyeshadow brush) when applying this concealer because you will get better results.

Texture:

This is a loose powder mineral concealer and it has a very smooth texture. Everything is applied silky-smooth and glides with perfection, but there are some down sides. This concealer will cake up if you apply too much. It will also leave you with a powder-like residue in the areas of use. You avoid the cake up by applying a little less and applying only small amounts each layer. You can avoid the powder residue by applying a facial primer before applying the concealer.

I didn't have a problem with this concealer seeking out fine lines, wrinkles, or dry patches. Though this did not clump up around dry skin, doesn't mean that it won't happen to you. There are different levels of dry skin, so I would suggest applying a little moisturizer to your skin, if you have dry skin, before application.

Coloring:
E.L.F. has a concealer for all skin types, ranging from fair to dark: Fair, Light, Warm, Dark, and Deep. Each color is very natural appearing. I do want to bring something up really quick, though. Some people have more of a pinkish tone to their fair skin and others are just fair without the pink tone. E.L.F.'s fair concealer has a pinkish tone to it. If you do not have a pink tone and you are fair skin, you may want to be careful when using this product because it can add a pink look to your face.

Coverage:

The coverage is rather well for the price and the fact this is a powder concealer. I would say you get medium coverage, and then you get full coverage after applying a foundation for the finishing touches. You do not need to apply a foundation over the concealer, only if you want.

What is the reason for applying a foundation over the concealer? If you apply a foundation over the concealer, it will help set the product in, thus making it last longer than it would without the foundation. You can also add to your coverage if needed.

Make sure you are applying a powder based foundation over a cream or liquid. Since this is a powder concealer, you will want a powder foundation over top. If you apply a cream or liquid foundation over a powder concealer, you will end up getting a caked up mess.

Application life:

I got approx. 5 hours of wear from this concealer, which is okay. It is not the best concealer life I have ever had, but it does the trick. You can always touch up the concealer throughout the day; it's not hard. Simply sweep a little new concealer over your face, buff it in, and you are good to go.

All-in-all, this is a good product and nice to have handy on those days you look tired, have red skin, or just need a little coverage here and there. You can get this product at eyeslipsface.com for $5.
