Makeup Review: E.L.F.'s Mineral Eyeshadow Primer

For all you makeup guru's out there, you know the difficulty of choosing a makeup online. It's never certain if the product will be worth your hard earned money or not. If you're looking to purchase makeup online, keep an eye out for the product review on my page.

I have been a makeup guru all my life and have been testing and reviewing products for the last five years. Each review is broken down into easily understood categories. Today we're taking a look at E.L.F.'s Mineral Eyeshadow Primer.

Product look: (4.5 stars out of 5)

If you have ever seen E.L.F.'s Eyeshadow Primer, you may think the mineral eyeshadow primer and original primer are one-the same. There is not much difference to the outer product. E.L.F.'s Mineral Primer comes in a plastic casing with a black screw on/off lid. Much like a mascara, this primer has a wand with a felt tip applicator.

There is a large amount of product in the container and a little goes a long way. I generally do not use the applicator to apply the primer, but I do use it to dab small amounts of product to my eyelid and then I use my ring finger to finish the application.

Color: (4 stars out of 5)

There is only one color available with this primer (it's not like a concealer or foundation where you have to match up your color with the product). E.L.F. has provided "Sheer" as their color. Sheer has more of a translucent effect when applied to the skin, but I have heard complaints from women who have darker complexions.

Those of you have darker complexions may find this primer to wash out your skin and cause a "cloudy" effect. If you use a concealer or foundation after application, this normally eliminates the "cloudy" affect.

All-in-all, Sheer tends to work for most women.

Texture: (3.5 stars out of 5)

I will start off by saying I really like the texture of this primer. You may be asking yourself "Then why did she give it 3.5 stars?". I gave this primer 3.5 stars in the texture section for one reason only - it creases with time.

You will notice this primer is very light to the touch and easy to blend out. It has more of a moisturized feel to it. When I tried this primer on dry skin, it did seem to make the skin patches stand out more so be careful in that area.

There are a few steps you can take to avoid creasing later on. Apply a small amount of primer to your lid. Apply a small amount of concealer to your lid (over the primer). Now you can apply either a loose translucent powder or your eyeshadow. The concealer will help absorb any natural body oils that could cause creasing.

Application Life: (4 stars out of 5)

The overall application life was approx. 3 hours until creasing when I did not take any steps to help prevent this. When I applied a small amount of concealer after the primer, I didn't see creasing until the 5 hours mark and it was only a small amount.

As for the eyeshadow life when using this primer, I did find it to last a little longer than it did without the primer. The biggest like I have when using Mineral Primer is how smooth my eyeshadow looks. It doesn't have a "rough" look to it. Make sure to blend your shadow thoroughly.

In the end, I do like this primer. I didn't see much difference between using the original E.L.F. Primer and the E.L.F. Mineral Primer. They both work about the same. The Mineral primer is a little more high quality and is a little better for your skin compared to the original, but both work about the same.
