I have been a makeup guru all my life and have been testing and reviewing products for the last five years. Each review is broken down into easily understood categories. Today we're taking a look at E.L.F.'s Studio Line Mineral Infused Mascara.
Packaging and Brush: (5 stars out of 5)
Mineral Infused Mascara comes in the classic mascara case. It has a large product container and smaller brush handle (a nice plus). This mascara is easy to store in a makeup bag, purse, vanity draw, etc. Moving on to the brush - I was in love with it. The brush bristles are made from silicone and are spaced perfectly to give your lashes natural looking volume. I like to stress to everyone trying to achieve lash volume to begin at the lash base and work your way up to the tip using a side-to-side motion. If you are trying to achieve length, focus on the very tips of your lashes (apply mascara from base to tip, then focus on the tips only.)
Colors: (4.5 stars out of 5)
Black is currently the only available color for this particular product. At this time I am unsure if E.L.F. will later add to their color collection. I would like to see at least brown added for those who have lighter hair and want a more natural look, but I will settle with black for the time being.
Coloring of this mascara is very rich. It is a matte color so you don't need to worry about glimmer and sparkle. In all reality, black would go great on any lash just be cautious of how much you use (depending on your hair color and skin tone). There are no rules to applying makeup; go with whatever makes you comfortable.
Product Texture: (3.5 stars out of 5)
Texture is always the main topic when picking a mascara. If you have a mascara that is too moist, you will have an issue with running and the lashes tend to blend together and dry like so. If you have a mascara that is too dry, you will have an issue with uneven applications and a hot mess.
This mascara seems a little unsure of which side it will pick. When you apply this mascara, it goes on smoothly and covers evenly. Mineral Infused mascara is nice enough not to dry on you during application, but it is very easy to get on your eyelids if you blink and it's not 00% dry. Later on, there tend to be more complications.
Application Life: (3 stars out of 5)
I was sad to see this mascara begin to flake after approx. 3 hours after application. You will notice your lashes start to "shrink" in size (due to the mascara wearing off) around 4 hours after application. There tends to be problems with lashes clumping together and I have many complaints when it comes to removing the mascara. The only way I can really describe removing Mineral Infused mascara from my lashes is like removing honey out of your hair. It just doesn't want to give.
I would recommend an oil based eye makeup remover to remove your mascara. If you do not have an eye makeup remover, use a little olive oil on a cotton ball and gently wipe over your lashes. You do not want to be harsh with your eye area because pulling and tugging can lead to early eye wrinkles and sagging skin.
E.L.F.'s Mineral Infused Mascara received an overall rating of 4 stars out of 5. This is a nice mascara to have on hand when you need a quick fix or if you have a small budget. As time goes on and you get more familiar with the product, it will become easier to handle applications.
