Makeup Review: E.L.F.'s Tone Correcting Concealer

TommiH
Hey everyone! Today we are going to talk about a new E.L.F. product I just got. I purchased the E.L.F. Tone Correcting concealer. There were a lot of mixed feelings toward this concealer, so it is a perfect candidate for a review.

During this review we are going to talk about the packaging, color, texture, coverage, and application life.

Let's get started!

Packaging:
A products packaging/casing is very easy to form an opinion about when looking on the outside. You can say it's fashionable, ugly, normal, weak, durable, etc., but always remember it's what is on the inside that matters (yes, even when it comes to the packaging).

E.L.F. Tone Correcting concealer comes in the average heavy-clear-plastic casing with a screw on/off capping. The casing is in the shape of a mascara container, which is nice because it makes easy for caring the product when you are on the go.

The wand does not reach to the very bottom of the casing, so you will have some product left over that you cannot get out once it gets too low. The applicator is on the end of the wand and it is like felt cloth. The applicator does work to grab the product from the casing, but I would only use the applicator to dab the product onto the skin and then smooth it out with your ring finger.

Color:
I was very happy with E.L.F.'s Tone Correcting concealer selection. There is a total of seven tones available ranging from fair to light/dark. All the colors look very natural. There is no shimmer to these concealer but you do get a dewy finish. If you do not want the dewy look when you finish off and don't plan to apply a matte finish foundation powder, I would apply a loose translucent powder to add that matte texture minus the foundation coverage.

Texture:
This is a liquid/crème based concealer. It is not quite as thin as some liquid concealers', but not as thick as a crème concealer. This concealer does hunt out dry skin and creases. So if you have dry skin, fine lines (which everyone has) or wrinkles (especially around the eye area). This concealer tends to cake up and look very heavy under a foundation (liquid, crème, or powder).

Coverage:
The coverage provided by this concealer is "so-so". Between the creasing, caking, and overall build-up from this concealer, there is coverage but very poor coverage. Red areas are covered, but the caking and build-up does emphasize the blemish area, thus making it poor coverage. There is not much you can do to stop the build up other than apply only one very thin coating and avoid putting anything else over that area (which is not always possible).

Application life:
I got approx. 1.5 hours of full coverage before everything went south. This concealer faded quickly and still provided poor coverage during the beginning and all the way to the end. If you would like this concealer to last a little longer, apply a loose translucent powder and hope for the best. But make sure you are not applying too much powder because it will into "cake-up" mode.

All-in-all, this is by far the best concealer out there. I would not recommend getting this concealer unless you are willing to tweak it and do some work to get it working the way you would like (if possible). You can find this concealer at eyeslipsface.com for $1.
