Make-Up Tip: How to Create a Natural Eye
Products and Tips for Naturally Beautiful Looking Eyes for Every Eye Color
Maybe she's born with it? I think not. You don't have to be an expert to achieve this look nor do you have to apply a ton of make up. Obviously if you're trying to look natural, then less is more. I will tell you exactly which products to purchase and how to apply them step by step.
Start with a good eye primer
If you want to keep your shadow looking fresh all day then my suggestion would be to use an eye primer. This works especially good if you have oily skin in which case your eyelids would probably also be oily. My recommendation would be a product from the company Urban Decay called Eyeshadow Primer Potion which retails for $16.00. You can find this product at Sephora stores nationwide and on Sephora.com. It comes in a tube and resembles a light concealer or foundation but once blended on your eyelid, it's invisible. Just dab a little on your lid and wait a second til it dries. Then your perfectly primed for your shadow. This will also help with the application process and will make your shadow look more even.
Eyeshadow brushes matter
Not only does the quality of the products you use matter but so does the tools you use to apply them with. My favorite brushes for the natural look are ones that aren't too stiff. The stiffer the brush, the more product you will use thus resulting in more shadow on the eye. I recommend a brush that's not too wide or dense with bristles but just enough to pick up the right amount of pigment. Examples would be MAC Cosmetics fluff brush #213 $22.50, Sephora Professional Platinum Natural Medium Eyeshadow Brush #14 $20.00 or Clinique Eyeshadow brush $18.50. Always invest in good quality brushes as they can last for a really long time and in the long run save you money.
Eyebrows
I cannot stress how important eyebrows are to the face. If your eyebrows are not shaped right then it will throw everything off. Do not over do it with tweezing. Your brows are there for a reason. They frame your eyes and enhance expression. To always have perfectly groomed brows sit in front of a magnifying mirror in a well lit area. A lighted mirror would be ideal. Fill in any sparse areas with a brow powder or pencil. Examples are Anastasia Brow Powder Duo $22.00 or Revlon Brow Fantasy $7.00. Make sure the color of powder or pencil is not too dark.
Eyeshadow
The colors of shadow can really range but I think that for a natural effect it is best to stay in the brown family. I personally like to get a trio of 3 coordinating shades to blend and use together. A soft pink, brown and ivory go well with every eye color. Smashbox makes a beautiful trio of exactly this, it's called Head Shot $28. Another example would be Revlon Colorstay Quad In the Buff $7.00. Take the lightest ivory shade and dust it on your brow bone and in the corner of your eyes. Then the medium shade and brush it over your entire lid. Put a little bit of the darkest shade in the crease and line the lower lash line and outer corner of the top lid. For lining with eyeshadow I love something called a smudge brush. A good one is Smashbox Double Ended Smudger # 20 $30.00.
Mascara
Natural looking lashes can be a hard task. I would go with brown mascara if you have light eyes and medium black if you have dark eyes, not blackest black. A few good formulas to try are as follows: Clinique Long Pretty Lashes $14, Covergirl LashExact $6.50, Maybelline Lash Discovery $6.00. Do one to two coats and make sure you don't have any clumps. Use a lash comb to get out any clumps that might form. I would use an eyelash curler if your lashes are on the straight and long side but not if they are short.
Viola...you are done.
