Makeup Tips for Freelance Writers

Instant Confidence Even When You Work From Home

Lehticia Leo
I am a self-proclaimed makeup junkie. If you're a reader of my Associated Content articles, you'll notice that many of my articles are makeup reviews and along the lines of "Top Ten Inexpensive Moisturizers." If I have some extra spending cash in my pocket, I'll run to my local Ulta or Macy's makeup counters to purchase some new makeup goods. While I do have a love for shoes and cute apparel, my addiction to makeup outweighs my love for any other womanly indulgence. Makeup isn't just a creative outlet, it's also the instant pick-me-up that provides me with the extra pep-in-my-step to get through a hectic workday.

Working from Home Alone

I'm a freelance writer, which means I work from home. Since my workdays consist of typing away on my laptop while avoiding all other human interactions, I have the option of going through an entire workday in my pajamas without even washing my face. I'll let you in on a little secret: 90% of the time I'm wearing a full face of makeup even while I work from home. Why, you ask? This may sound crazy, and there is a slight chance you won't understand my point unless you're a freelancer yourself, but makeup gives me the confidence I need to feel like a professional writer. Because I work from home, most people think I just sit around scratching my ass all day watching reality TV. Sometimes, people just don't take my profession seriously. Setting aside 20 minutes each morning to do my hair and makeup give me a world of confidence. Even if I just throw my hair back into a ponytail, the makeup makes me radiate energy and confidence.

The Freelance Stereotype

As freelancers, it's easy to get into the habit of working ten hour days and just not give a crap about how we look. I'm well aware of the freelancer stereotype that says, "as a freelancer, I can work in my pajamas and bunny slippers all day." But, let me ask you this: do you truly feel like an authority when you're sitting around in your pajamas all day? Better yet, do you even take a shower before you start your workday? It's easy to let the little things go when you don't have to worry about presenting your appearance in the best light. Freelancing ladies, I assure you if you take the time in the morning to do your makeup, hair and maybe even put on some business-casual, you will be glowing with confidence. And, trust me, it will certainly show in your work and your productivity.

I work outside the home and I admit that if I don't have to go somewhere on my day off I'll skip the make-up. My bad.
