Make-Up Tips for Natural Redheads

Morayma Makay
With naturally porcelain skin and lighter eyes, redheads stand out and are have been immortalized in paintings and literature as being fiery goddesses. However, it can often seem as though all of the make-up advice out there is aimed at brunettes and blondes. In order to own that unique ginger beauty and enhance it to its fullest potential, there are some tips and tricks that are just perfect for redheads.

For redheads with freckles, it is a great idea to not try and hide what makes you unique. Too often, women with freckles will try to hide them by wearing thick foundation and powders which leave them looking aged and overdone. Freckles have historically symbolized youth and rather then cover them up, it is a wonderful idea to simply use a sheer coverage foundation and a mineral based powder to keep your skin looking polished but not cakey. If you prefer to have more bare, dewey looking skin, opt for using a touch of concealer a shade lighter then your natural skin tone to cover any blemishes or under eye circles you may have.

The best shades of blush for ginger beauties are earth tones. Pinks and reds will look harsh against paler skin, while the earth tones will add a warmth to your overall look. Using a light dusting of bronzer for extra oomph is also very flattering and can be used along the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the browbones.
The eyeshadow palette that best accentuates a redhead's natural coloring is one that contains warmer colors like peach, bronze, light brown, light to darker shades of greens and even aubergine for a bolder look. Black eyeliner applied to the upper lid right at the lashline will add a level of sophistication as well, and redheads can use dark black liner beautifully as it contrasts so well with ivory skin and light eyes.

Contrary to popular belief, redheads can wear dark lips and fire-engine red hues on their pouts and look fabulous. The combination of darker, stand-out lips against fair skin and red hair is show stopping and very flattering. As with any haircolor and skin tone combination, it is usually best to choose what you want to make a statement with when it comes to applying your make-up. A darker smoky eye will look best with a light lip, while a bold lipcolor works best with a natural eye. Dark eye make-up and dark lips combined can look dramatic but oftentimes ends up looking too overdone and unnatural.

While most ad campaigns and magazines tend to cater to blondes and brunettes, redheads have a plethora of cosmetics that they can use to enhance their natural beauty. Knowing what color palettes work best with your skin tone, hair color and eye color is always important in order to look fabulous day or night.
