Weddings can take months upon months to get just right, and on the big day the bride can feel confident in all she's done to get here. But the most common thing a bride forgets to plan and have pre-picked; her look.
Sure she has the gown and shoes, jewelry and hair all pre-picked and ready, but what about her makeup? Her makeup needs just as much preparation as everything else.
Take your time when preparing what your look will be. Do you want to have a classic look, natural look, trendy, or elegant? These all need to be taken into consideration. If you're not sure which you want, just remember, makeup can be washed off and applied again and again. If you try a look and it just doesn't feel right for the big day, take it off and start over. Just make sure you don't try a new look on the big day!
Another thing you need to take in consideration is your skin. You don't want to have dry skin on your wedding day, breakouts, rashes, etc...You want to be the center of attention, not the girl who's trying her best to keep her face hid.
It's best to start a healthy skin plan now. Remember to take your vitamin E, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, and start a washing and cleansing routine.
A good tip from photographers is to have pictures of yourself taken with each look you are thinking about wearing. Does you look go with your dress? EXAMPLE - A bride with a classic dress and blowout makeup (like bright blue eye shadow) may look a little odd. Make sure your makeup will go good with the rest of your appearance.
Also, take those pictures so you can see what your makeup will look like on camera. Remember that reds tend to stand out and lighter colors like beige tend to be more standoffish.
It is said that:
A morning bride should wear the least amount of makeup for her photos. Photographers tend to use more natural light during the morning for their pictures and this means that your makeup could really stand out. Too much makeup will look cakey and fake.
Midday brides should avoid foundation that will have a gloss sheen look. This will make you look beyond fake and oily. The light your photographer will use during this time of day will either be natural or artificial.
Both afternoon and evening brides can feel free to put on more makeup. The natural light will be less harsh during these times and won't give your makeup that fake look. Go ahead and apply the powders!
What you really should think about when you're choosing your "look" is how you will see yourself 20 years from now when you're looking at your wedding photos. Will you look completely plastered with makeup and hideous or will you be able to look at your pictures and be proud to show other people? This is that one good time to look into the future.
All looks, elegant, classic, natural, and trendy can still be beautiful years from now if you make it your own and get your practice now! Because now is the time to mess around with different types of makeup, now is the time to mess around with different looks, and now is the time to save yourself from your future kids' laughter when they see you in your wedding album and say "Wow mom, you looked like Frankenstein."
Good luck choosing your look!
