Making 290 Horsepower with a Bolt on SR20DE

Put the Power to the Ground on Pump Gas

Making a 290 horsepower sr20de with the use of factory bolt on components isn't a very hard task nor is it really an expensive one. All you need are a few modifications and some off the shelf Nissan parts from some Japanese sr20de powered cars and you'll be set. I will outline the parts necessary for a turbo conversion and some helpful tips for the install.

Turbo: The turbo you will be using to turbocharge your sr20de is an off the shell oem JDM Nissan Pulsar GTIR, this turbo is good right up to about 290 horsepower at 16-17lbs (or psi) of boost. Make sure you get the oxygen sensor housing with the turbo. A Garrett gt28rs can also be used if a GTIR t28 in unavailable.

Exhaust Manifold: We will be using an exhaust manifold from Pulsar GTIR.

Fuel System: For a boosted sr20de you will need 370cc injectors (from any jdm sr20det, they are purple), Nismo fuel pressure regulator (set at 59psi @ idle or 4 bar), fuel pressure gauge, new fuel filter, and a 255lph high pressure Walbro fuel pump.

Engine Management: You can use Greddy E-manage, Apexi SAFC, or my suggestion a Jim Wolf Technology ecu that is preprogrammed for your sr20de for 370cc injectors@ 4 bar, stock bored mass air flow meter housing (bored by your local machine shop to 53.5mm) and 9.5:1 compression turbo program.

Exhaust: You can a 3 inch t28 downpipe that can be sourced from jgycustoms.com or you can make your own. You will also need a test pipe (in place of the cat or a high flow cat) and VRS makes a 3 inch mandrel bent cat back for most sr20de powered cars. A 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust is the only way to achieve 290whp on a sr20de with this set up.

Intercooler: An sr20de t28 conversion intercooler kit can be had from jgycustoms.com for about $800 for your sr20de, they will also weld on the blow off valve flange of your choosing for free. I suggest using the Greddy type S blow off valve for your turbo sr20de, it is very common to find and works very well.

Other Special Parts: Manual boost controller (you can opt for a two stage controller with a switch to change from high boost to low boost, but the engine will still operate safely on high boost as long as you use 93 octane gas on your sr20de); ½ drill bit, ½ npt pipe tap, and ½ npt to ½ inch brass barb fitting adapter (this will be used to drill and tap your block for an oil return line), vacuum line (you'll need a good amount of this), EGR block off plate (these machined plated can be found online, simply search), oil feed and return lines (can also be purchased from jgycustoms).

Optional Parts: Snow Performance alcohol injection kit, this utilizes a hobb switch (boost sensitive switch) to activate at a predetermined boost setting; this kit will prevent your sr20de from detonating on hot summer days.

**Make sure to install ecu, maf, injectors, regulator, and fuel pump first before turbocharging, make sure that the car is completely drivable.
