To some people, the phrase "making a budget" can be scary. There are many different computer programs, budget books and methods that are used to create a budget. These cost you money and precious time to figure out how to operate these. A budget can not only help you get out of debt but stay out of debt also. This is something that you should start doing as soon as possible to keep your bills paid while still being able to save a little bit of money. When you are not making enough money to cover your bills it is easy to get discouraged. This should give you a little bit of a piece of mind. Teaching this valuable lesson to your children before they leave home can also save them a world of financial and credit trouble. So sit down, grab a pen and paper, and find out how to budget your money! Good luck.

Gather your income information- First off, you need to gather all the pay stubs or receipts of all income that taken into your home. If your income varies from month to month than you need to find the average amount of your monthly income. You do this by adding all of your monthly income totals together and then dividing by the amount of months that total was accumulated. This will give a rough estimate of the figure you can budget to spend every month.

Gather your bills- Next you need to gather all of your monthly bills. If you also have a bill amount that changes per month such as a utility bill, you should find the average of that as well. Now get a piece of paper and make a list of all the bill names and their amounts listed down the page. Add up all the bill amounts and that will give you your monthly costs. Make sure to list entertainment and savings but do not allot a dollar amount for these yet. In a lot of households, this number is higher than your monthly income and that is where a budget is going to help.

Adjustments- Start by deducting a ten dollar increment from each of the bill totals and add those up. This is getting you closer to matching your income and your bills at the same number. You should put ten dollars for the entertainment and savings columns to work those areas in. Keep adjusting the amounts by deducting small equal amounts of the totals until you match your totals. While you will not be paying our entire balances off each month, your bill collectors are going to be happy with as close to the amount as possible. When you make a little more money that month, you should put it towards that bill that has the biggest overdue balance. Also, try contacting the companies that send you bills and discuss with them that you have created a budget and this is the most that you can pay. As long as you keep them informed, they should be willing to work with you.

Now you should stay as strictly to your budget as possible and there you have it. A budget that is easy to create and is created specifically for your income and situation is right at your fingertips. A budget is the best way to keep you out of large debt. Most people make the mistake of paying one bill in full and then not paying another and switching around just to pay it off in full. Good luck.

  • Most businesses are willing to work with you as long as you are paying the majority of the bill total.
  • Do not be afraid to call and tell them that you can not pay the full total.
  • Use this budget to make sure all bills get as much money as possible each pay period.
