Website Traffic

The very first thing you're going to do when you sign up with Google Analytics is measure your website traffic. By placing a small bit of code on the pages you want to track Google will show you what those pages are doing for you. You'll get information such as how many people have come to that page, how long they stayed on your site, how many pages on your site they went to and more.

The other information that Google Analytics will provide you with for each entry to your site is how they got there in the first place. You'll know which search engine they came from and what keyword phrase they used to find you. This information can be used to target future articles and ideas for your site.

Adwords

Adwords is Google's advertising platform. With Adwords you can choose a keyword, or key phrase, for your website and use that keyword to set up ads on Google. These are the small links that you see at the top of a Google search. Every time someone clicks on your ad you pay Google the agreed upon amount for that click.

Google will then provide you with information on how many times that particular ad has been viewed and how many times it's been clicked on, among many other things. You can sort your data by day, week, month, etc. Then you can decide which keywords work for you and which don't.

Writing Targeted Ads

By using the Web traffic and Adwords tools you can create an effective ad to place on other websites or on Google itself. You now know which keywords people are looking for and which ones sell the best. You also know which ones bring people into your website from the search engines and which ones keep them there.

Using the plethora of knowledge that you've gained from Google Analytics you can create a focused ad and place it in just the right place to draw in more customers or readers to your website. More pageviews equals more money.

Site Readiness Report

This is a free report that Google Analytics offers that will help you see where your site needs optimizing. It will perform an analysis of the accuracy of your data and then provide you with information that will help you improve your website. This information would then be used to tweak keyword on your web pages or on your ads.

WordStream Keyword Management for SEO
