Making Foam Bath Toys for Kids

Chad R. Herman
Kids and their bath toys are just a special thing. But why go pay all that ridiculous money to buy fischer price bath toys or any of the other name brand toys specifically made for the bath? You have all the tools or can get all the tools for a very very cheap price to make foam bath toys that every kid will love.

Get a large amount of foam from any arts an crafts store. In fact, you can even use good old dollar store sponges, but you'll have to get the big flat kind that really this is their only purpose. Put th e foam on a flat surface, or lay out your sponges. If they want to move, some double sided tape or some tape stuck to itself will keep foam in place easily.

Go and by some hollow cookie cutters. These cookie cutters are the kind that don't have designs inside of them, but are really molds with the outline of the design. You can get cheap cookie cutters at most craft stores, and many dollar stores. Look around for these at x-mass time, or the after x-mass sales. Place a cookie cutter on the foam and trace the outer edge all the way around. You have an outline of whatever creature your cookie cutter is of. Now take a blade or some sharp scissors and cut them out.

Lay these out on a table or a flat surface, or even on the ground if you really want. If your kids are old enough, ask them to help you. Get some eyes, again at a craft store is the best place to find a bag of these rolly eyes. But, recycled old toys work well to. There's no reason to buy if you can reuse. Place a dollop of glue on the back of each eye, and paste it on the piece of foam. If you want, you can get the whole family around a table making these little creatures. Make sure you press hard enough to make those little things stuck tot he foam.

The last thing you can do, is to dye the foam toys specific colors, or to add designs onto the foam. The possibilities are endless. Remember, this is an opportunity to tell your child that they are allowed to be as creative as they want. They don't have to abide by any specific rules.

Now you have a bunch of foam bath toys and a great time was had by all.
