These make wonderful gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, baby showers, retirement, and even graduations. What you will need to do first however, is to take a picture or use the negative of a picture you already have.
Whatever negative you use, be sure it's of something the person you are making this gift for, can relate to. If it's for an anniversary, why not use a negative of the entire family or a vacation spot the couple loved. If it's for a birthday, use a negative of a picture taken at the last birthday party, or a negative of their favorite pet.
The possibilities are endless for the pictures you use, and not only can you make these items as gifts, but you can also make money selling these items at flea markets or on line. All it takes is having the negative of beautiful pictures you've taken, and transferring pictures to either cloth, wood. or paper.
Below are the instructions used for this process. You can purchase all the developing solutions from either a photographic supply store or a wholesale drug company.
Items You Will Need:
• 2 Dark Colored Bottles
• 2 Labels
• Distilled Water
• Silver Nitrate
• Ferric Ammonium Citrate
• Citric Acid
• Sodium Thiosulphate
• Pencil or Chalk
• Cotton Cloth
• Heavy Wrapping Paper
• 2 Pieces of Picture Frame Glass (larger than your picture)
For Solution Number 1
6 fluid ounces of distilled water
1/4 ounce of Silver Nitrate
1/4 ounce of Ferric Ammonium Citrate
1/4 ounce of Citric Acid
Mix chemicals in water and stir until they are dissolved, then pour ingredients into one of the dark colored bottles and label as solution 1.
For Solution Number 2
10 ounces of distilled water
1/4 ounce of Sodium Thiosulphate
Mix chemical in water until dissolved, then pour into the second dark colored bottle and label as solution number 2. Now you're ready to start transferring pictures.
Hint: If you're using cloth to print on, stretch in out on one piece of picture glass frame, then secure it with clothespins first.
Step 1
Prep the item by placing the picture where you want it to show, then tracing around it with something that can be washed off... like a pencil or piece of chalk.
Step 2
Saturate the cotton cloth in solution number 1 and evenly wipe the area where the picture goes.
Step 3
Use the wrapping paper to make a picture frame. The hole should be cut the same size as the picture you are using.
Step 4
Place the wrapping paper frame over the negative and place both the frame and the negative on the spot you traced out.
Step 5
Place the other piece of glass over this and secure all of it together with clothespins.
Step 6
When everything is as you want it, and it's all secured, then expose your project to bright sunlight for a few minutes.
Step 7
After exposure to sunlight, remove all the clothes pins and glass frames, and soak the area in solution number 2 for 1 minute. (This sets the picture so it won't fade in sunlight).
Step 8
Rinse the area in clean water, then let it dry.
That is it! And the process can be used over and over again in making gifts to make money, or just to make gifts for family and friends.
If you have a web site or blog, why not use a picture of your logo on T-shirts to sell or give away as incentives to sign up to your newsletter. The possibilities are endless, why not give transferring pictures a try.
