Supplies You Will Need:
  • Construction Paper
  • Printer Paper (or any blank paper on hand)
  • School Glue & Glue Sticks
  • Stickers
  • Crayons, Markers, and Colored Pencils
  • Assortment of Adornments like google eyes, feathers,pom-poms,sequins,glittery stars, and more (this is a great way to get ride of all of those left overs from other craft projects)
  • Scissors (regular, and Decorative(opt))
  • Old Greeting Card (used as a template)
  • Envelope Size of Card being made

Making the Card:

First please protect your table, with either newspaper, an old plastic tablecloth, or shower curtain,is perfect for this. Now gather all of the supplies into a shoe box, so to keep everything organized until the fun starts. Have each child making a card to pick out a color of construction paper, for the main part of the card. Then hand each child that is making a card their own piece of plain paper, have them draw, color, or write a special note for their card. This will depend on their ages at this point, remember to let them be creative, this is not a mom project.

Now this should give you enough time for the next step, now depending on the age of your child on if they can do this next step, or if you need to do this for them. Take the card template, and place it on top of one of the construction paper, trace around the card, now cut along the line, then fold in half do this for each of the cards being made. You child should be done with the drawing on the other sheet of paper. Take this sheet of paper and either cut a rectangle (this will fight in the center of the card) or taring the paper will work also, make sure to leave a little of the main cards color showing around the edges. Using your glue sticks, glue this to the center of your cards, glue stickers dries faster for the next step of the project.

Now place all of the adornments that you gathered earlier, this will be the sequins, glitter, feathers and more, on the table, and to make this easier put a pile at each child's area of the table, give them all their own little glue bottle and let them have some crafting fun. You may have to show the littlest ones use the glue, that is fine, but let them be the artist of their own card. Once they are done creating there little cards, then set them aside to dry. You now have a finished father's day card that he will cherish for ever.

Now the hardest part of this craft is getting them to stop, so have then make a small art project also, with the left over items so they can still keep crafting until the items are all used up. Remember to keep this their project and that it is OK to get messy that is the fun of crafting.

The last step is to clean up the mess, have the little ones help with this. I keep all of the crafting supplies in a small plastic box for the next time we need a quick craft project, and when I see a sale at my local craft store, or department store, I will stock up on the much needed supplies. This makes it easy for the next time. I have showed you the steps on making a greeting card from the kids, this can also be used for any holiday or any occasion that comes up.

So have some fun with your children this weekend and help find the hidden artist inside of them, and you may find something new about your child also. Please keep it fun and safe, for all involved.
