Making Life a Musical - My Fantasy Ultimate Home Theater Set Up

Rosallee Scott
I have a music box that plays "All I Ask of You" from my favorite romantic movie "Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera (2004)". My fantasy ultimate home theater set up would be inspired by a collection of music boxes from all my favorite movies. It would be a place to go and be someone else for a moment, someplace else for a minute and somewhere that you can control your life's script for a few hours. Give me the plainest of basements or bonus rooms and I would transform it into a magical world filled with laughter or tears at the press of a button.

Basic Decor

The chairs would be clothed in a plush black velvet, the walls a Venetian plaster in ebony as well and the floor clothed in red carpet. Lighted glass cases on both side walls would house my collection of music boxes, leading the eye downward to large red velvet drapes reminiscent of old Hollywood.

The Extras

As the curtains raise, my first-time guests would be surprised to find two elegant bars on either side of the large cinema screen in my fantasy ultimate home theater set up. A full service bar to the right allows for any beverage imaginable, both cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. To the left, the bar would house an old fashioned popcorn maker, pizza over and snack counter stocked full of family favorites.

Glamorous Additions

Black and white photos of beautiful starlets and their gorgeous male leads would be placed next to the prospective music boxes. A large leather book would contain a list of every film I own, as well as suggestion cards for guest to write down their favorites that I may not have. Every seat would offer a headset with volume controls. In the back of the room, as well as in it's darker corners, a few two-seater plush red velvet lounge chairs.

In short, my fantasy ultimate home theater set up would be perfect for girls or boys nights in, family gatherings and romantic date nights at home. Most of all, it would be an excuse to give into my music box obsession.
