Making Meaningful Christmas Memories with Your Kids

It is true that Christmas is over-commercialized and not as revered as it used to be but for those that love it, Christmas lives on. One of the biggest concerns parents express this time of year is sharing this importance with their kids. How do you go about making meaningful Christmas memories with your kids? Treasured Christmas memories start in your own home and your own heart. Introduce your children to the true meaning of Christmas and make memories that will last a life.

Nativity Scenes

The best way for children to learn, or at least the one they most prefer, is the visual method. Take kids to a local nativity to see the baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the shepherds. Set up a nativity scene in your own home. Inexpensive nativity sets are as close as your local dollar store. Arrange the nativity on a table, piano countertop. Tell the story of the nativity as your children assemble the cast in the stable. For a few more dollars, you could place a lighted nativity scene in your yard.

The Christmas Star

Give your Christmas tree star a place of reverence in your home. Decorate your tree except for the star. Gather the family around the tree to witness the star topper being put in place. Tell your children the story of the Christmas star that led the kings to the baby King Jesus. Make the lighting and placement of the star important to your family. Do this every year and establish great memories.

The Christmas Story

Every year, share the Christmas story with your children. Reading from the Bible is good but read a version that children can understand and will want to listen to. Read from a children's Bible or a Christmas storybook. Other ways to reinforce the story is to use videos like "Charlie Brown Christmas" or the "Little Drummer Boy."

Visit a Church

Visit a local church for Christmas or attend a Christmas cantata. Get your children involved in a church that puts on children's productions like plays or musicals. Of course, you will need to get them involved a few months before Christmas. Attend a candlelight service or enjoy s
