First, understand yourself. What kind of job do you want to do? What job would you love? Not just one you might like a bit better than your current one, but one that finds you happy to be there. This sounds so elementary and yet it's glossed over most of the time. Don't focus solely on your work experiences as a source for inspiration. Consider your outside interests as well. There is a way to translate your after work interests and activities into a job that you will love.

Next, learn all there to know about your chosen area of interest. This shouldn't be such a hard job because, after all, it is something you know you already love. If you need more formal education to accomplish this; don't be afraid to go back to school. Night schools and online schools make it possible to learn without interfering with your current job.

Last, by replacing the job you hate with one that you love you are not only advancing your own well being. Other's around you are affected by your work and if you are doing a job you truly love; it will translate into a better experience for those with whom you work, those that gain from your work and the family and friends that you go home to afterwards. If you know and really love your new job, it will show and you will prosper.

The job you love starts with you. Remember, you don't have to remain content in a job that makes you miserable. There are alternatives out there. Half the battle is getting started. You just have to be able to suppress your natural fear of change and embrace your new adventure.
