Making Money Out of One "Potato Famine"

Irish in Ireland Should Come Out and Protest This Misuse by American Politicians of Irish Sufferings

Ireland should come clean on who helped them and who didn't in the civil war and put an end to this trans-Atlantic mischief, once for all.

It is all the more reprehensible that some of those who call themselves as helpers are taking advantage of the sufferings of both Catholics and Anglicans without ever even moving one finger for the resolution of the conflict.

Many times I wonder whether Irish need to be permanently "indebted" to us for the past.

Because, at the time of potato famine the geographical area which is our USA now was a country with borders open to all migrants from all lands. We needed people too to populate these uninhabited lands.

Famines were part of the global landscape at that time. Only that Irish, among many other Europeans, took advantage of those difficult times to migrate to the new world.

Yes, Irish were the ones most affected by the famine. But that doesn't mean that Irish are to be eternally reminded of the "good works" of Americans or that we are their masters till the end of the world.

If our politicians and leaders don't know how to respect another country or its people, even if there be millions of immigrants from that country, they won't get the respect they expect from that nation.

Hope this will be the last time we hear the name of the Irish being dragged into America's politics for self-serving motives.

Let us not forget that Ireland is a respected member of the nations of the world, a nation that existed before USA, a Republic by its own right, and a people who didn't fear to exercise their independence in recent referendums, despite being a member of the European Union.

Too much of a good thing can also become bad. Especially, when it encroaches on the honor and sufferings of other people.
