Making Money by Selling Old Video Games

Some of My Favorite Ways to Make Extra Cash

Dustin Crowe
Has the poor economy got ya down? Low on cash? Need extra cash? Got a house full of video games, but never have time to play them anymore? How about blowing the dust off of those old games and get yourself some cash for them. Never fear, I'm going to help you to sell your old video games, consoles, and accessories. Here are some of the best ways to turn those old games into cold hard cash:

EB/GameStop Stores:
These are your first stop when looking to make money off of your old video games, or DVDs. Currently EB/Gamestop is the biggest national video game retailer, whether in their stores or on-line. They offer top money for games and movies in good condition. EB/GameStop stores also pay cash for used game systems, and accessories like controllers, memory cards, and other things like that. Often they have specials on for used merchandise. One of the best features of selling to either of these stores is that they give you an accurate estimate of value before you decide to sell. This being the biggest name in video game stores right now and will always be my first choice when selling games.

EBay:
EBay is place to sell anything, and most times people will make a pretty nice profit. This includes video games, game consoles, accessories, strategy guides, and just about anything video game related in between. EBay is often the first place that people go when looking for a specific game or a collector's edition. So, most times, rare and hard to find games are big money makers. Also, people are looking for older consoles, like original Atari, Sega Genesis and Nintendo systems in working order, these are usually big sellers, because people want to finally beat that game that had them stumped so many years ago. EBay offers great prices and millions of possible buyers. Be sure to include several key words when posting games on eBay, and be as descriptive, and detailed as possible. Remember, the better something sounds, the more likely people are to bid or buy.

Amazon.com:

Amazon.com is a great site for its users to buy and sell and just about anything, and video games are no exception. This site offers features similar to eBay, but it is not quite as popular. None the less, millions of people buy on Amazon.com, thus making it still a great option for selling your old games, consoles, and accessories. The same description advice for posting things on this site would be the same as eBay. The only downside of Amazon.com, is that they are a majority known as an on-line bookstore, of course you will find lots of other products, but Amazon.com is mainly known for its annual book sales. This site wouldn't be your first choice, but Amazon.com is by no means a last resort.

Flea Markets, Swap Meets, Yard Sales, and Craigslist.com:
These places are good places to buy and sell video games, but usually are a last resort for gamers. These places are more than likely not going to include a warranty and are generally frowned upon when selling video games. Although risky, these attractions do draw lots of people, and the more people who look at your stuff the higher the chance is that it will be bought. When selling games in person at some of these places, try to have some kind of set up to show possible customers that your games are in good working condition, maybe like a television and console set up so people can try before they buy. The only upside to these places is that for the most part people can be more successful when selling face to face. Face to face sells are easier because when it comes to video games, if you can prove it works, the game will do most of selling for itself. Craigslist.com can be somewhat risky because it is used for such a variety of things, use this as an absolute last place to attempt to sell your games.

Pawn Shops:
Pawn shops are a big savior for some people who are in need of some quick cash, but never the place to go to if you are looking to make top dollar for your used games, consoles and accessories. Pawn shops offer its customers the ability to buy your stuff back, in a given amount of time, so that is really the only true upside. These kind of places I would only recommend if you need fast cash and aren't worried about getting the full value of your stuff. When using pawn shops, the only real advice is buyer beware...or in this case, seller beware, don't get taken advantage of. The owners will offer way less than an item's true value, just because they know that you are there for quick cash, and if you need it bad enough you will take the low amount of money.

There are other, but far less successful methods for selling old video games. Some of those methods would include, advertising in Newspaper's classified ads, posting sales ads on Internet forums, and as well as many other ways to sell unwanted games, consoles, and accessories. No matter which method you use, hopefully this will help anyone who is trying to make some extra cash. Check out the reference links for more information, and hopefully I can help you make that extra cash you need.
