If you have a portable MP3 player, you may want to spend some time during your layover listening to some of your favorite songs. As you listen to your favorite music, you can relax and enjoy the fine art of watching passing travelers. You can speculate as to where they are going and why. Are they visiting an old friend or going to a tropical island for a much needed vacation. You may be surprised how much you enjoy this simple pastime.
In today's busy world, it is rare to find time to ourselves and this could be an opportune time to listen to your favorite music, read your favorite magazine or enjoy a novel you've been eager to begin.
If you're traveling with your laptop, most airports have a café or restaurant in which you can access the internet through a wireless connection. You can use your layover time to catch up on some of your favorite internet sites, complete some online shopping, or do some online research that you've been meaning to complete for awhile. Additionally, many business travelers use their time at the airport to catch up on emails or finish other work tasks.
Waiting for your next flight is also a good time to make some phone calls you haven't had time to make. You can catch up with an old friend, find out what your favorite niece would like for her birthday or contact your insurance company to find out what the extra charge is on your monthly bill.
Spending time at the airport is also a great time to make sure your electronic devices are fully charged so you'll be ready when you get to your final destination. If you know you have a layover, be sure to pack your chargers in the luggage you will have with you on the airplane.
It's hard to find time to watch movies in our daily lives. Many people own their own portable DVD players and they use their time at the airport to catch up on a movie they have been anxious to see. If you don't own your own DVD player, most major airports have a counter at which you can rent a portable DVD player and a movie or two. You can even use your own headphones so you don't disturb other travelers.
If you still find yourself struggling to decide what you will do to fill the time at the airport during your layover, you can always take advantage of the time to catch up on some sleep. With today's fast paced lifestyle, most of us find ourselves with a sleep deficit. If this is the case with your situation, you can utilize your layover time to take a quick cat nap, although you may find the sleep restless with the many announcements and the various noises in the airport.
No matter how you decide to spend your time during your layover, try to look at this opportunity as found time. You can spend this time doing activities that seem to get lost in the day to day activities.
