First off,you are going to go to http://www.myspace.com/ in upper right hand corner it was say Help / Sign Up,go ahead and click that. You will need a ready e-mail address and don't worry they really don't send you much so you are not going to get a bunch of spam or junk mail.
About less than halfway down the page on the left hand side is a easy to follow sign up page, fill it out and click sign up,you want to make sure that your password is unique and only something you would know.Next you will have to type in those crazy numbers and/or letters to verify your account.
Then,it will pull up a page to add photos. At this time you add any photos you like as long as they meet the standard JPG or GIF form and are 600k or less, okay it may sound intimidating but really it's not because if by chance you want to add a picture and it's to big all you have to do is resize it.Once you have found a picture just hit that upload button and add it or if you just want to skip this for now it's fine because it will always be on your myspace page readily accessible.
Next, you be directed to a invite friends page,if you don't want to do this you can come back to it at a later date and do it.If you skip this part your page will go directly to your now plain looking page but don't worry now comes the fun part.
At the left hand top of the page it should say Hello,(and your name)! and just under that is Edit Profile, click on that and let's get you busy. This page will say at the top Profile Edit-Interest & Personality, under that will be all the fields that you can edit. We'll start with Interest&Personality,in this section you can put a headline, like for instance,a phrase you love, something small about you,a small Icon (we'll get to that later) just about anything but you want to keep it small for that one.
Next is the About Me:,here you can type in whatever you want people to know about you,you can add Icons and Graphics here as well(again I'll get you to that later). Then you have the I'd Like to Meet:,again just put whatever you want, whether it's a celebrity or someone else.Next,is the Interest:,here you can any certain hobbies that you are into or just things you like to do in general,a little more specific than the About Me: section.Next, the music section, here you can share what music you enjoy. Then, the movies section you can share what movies you enjoy here or many people actually put the movie that they like and a little bit of a review with it.Next,Books: ,as people preview movies they like I have seen it done with books as well,it's just your own personal way of doing things. Then,Heros:,most people here know exactly what they want to say and who they want to say it to,personally I like reading these on other peoples myspace pages.
Now,you can either Preview Profile and see what you think and Edit if you need to or just hit the Save All Changes. After you get that much the way that you like it and click the Save All Changes button,(which you have to do or you will lose everything up to this point and have to retype it all again),you can move on to name now,it will already have a Display name and Last Name but if you want to change nows the time, you can change it to a nickname or whatever you want, again make sure to click the save changes button if you make changes to it.
Moving on to Basic Info, here you can fill out basic information about yourself including occupation, race, city and state and what you on looking for on myspace but the beauty is,you don't have to if you don't want to.Move on to the next one ,Background&Lifestyle:,this gets a little more personal it includes everything from sexual orientation to martial status and education,it will automatically have No Answer checked you can change that right now.Next, comes the Schools: ,here you can list everything from high school to any type of college you have attended.
Now,is Companies:here you can list what companies that you work for or that you have previously worked for.*Remember each time you add something to a page click the Save Changes button at the bottom.*Next,Networking" this is mainly for people who are using their myspace page to network with, here you can add Fields and Sub-Fields as well as Role and Description of jobs and duties that you perform.
Finally you can add a song or video to your myspace, this can be done easily by clicking the link provided Find a band in Myspace music,it will pull up a music page,on the upper right hand side of the page you can type in a band where it says Keyword or you can scroll down the page and browse artists and genres, once you find what you are looking for click on it,it will pull up the band page and the right hand side of the page will look a mini jukebox, that will have 3 or 4 songs, click on the song that you want to hear and it will play it.If at this point you want to add it to your page click the add button and it will pull up a page that will say ,click "Add" only if you really wish to add this song, then you click Add song to profile or Cancel.
Now,click Home at the top left hand side of the page and go back to your home page.Under Edit profile you can go to Account Settings, this will allow you change your password if you want, make your account private or public and time zone settings, click the Change button after you are done. Then go back to Home and go down to the Add/Edit photos if you would like to add or edit photos to your page, they don't have to be pictures or yourself, you can add family, friends, pets whatever you desire and want to share.Once you have added photos you can scroll down the page to Your Current Albums, here you can click on view or arrange,if you click on arrange you can arrange your photos however you want them to be in your photo album,if you click view it will pull up all your pictures and you can your caption to each picture individually if you want ( after you add a caption to a picture be sure to click on My Photos, instead of Album Index to go back to your pictures,it's a easier process). Then when are done click Home.
Now,the Add/Change Videos you can browse Myspace for videos where you can watch and add if you would like,if you find a video that you like just scroll a little bit down and just under the video you will see Rate this Video,Bulletin This,Blog This,E-mail This,Add to my profile,Save to my favorites and Subscribe.Scroll down a little more and you will see Video URL : and Video Code: if you want to add it to a bulletin or Blog you have to copy the Video Code: by right clicking and pushing Select All then Copy then go back to your Myspace page and add as a Bulletin or Blog (which we will get to in a little bit).
After you have done all of this you can click back to your Home page and just under your photo you will see.Profile,Pics,Videos,Blogs,Comments and Friends,at anytime you can click any one of these to view those categories. Now,we can move on to Blogging, this have become a myspace favorite. You can write basically about anything that you want to,for instance many people use it as a journal or to write reviews about movies or restaurants or to share recipes or ideas.Just hit the Blog button under you photo it will direct to a new page. Here, you can post new blog or customize and existing blog or e-mail your blogs to friends. If you click Post New Blog it will pull a page that may look a bit intimidating but it is simple to follow. It will already have the date so go down to Subject: and type in whatever you are wanting to write about.
Then go to Category: hit the down arrow, here you can look through whatever you want to use to categorize your Subject or leave it at None.Next,it will look a regular e-mail,you can change font and background color and even add smileys. Then after you finish typing a Blog scroll down a little bit more and you will see Tell us what you are reading, viewing or listening to:, again here you can click the down arrow to add Music,Books,Video/DVDS and Video Games, click on one of those and it will pull up a small window here you can type whatever you are looking for in one of those categories. It will pull up the results and a picture which you can now add to your blog by clicking post on my blog.
Now, you can click your current mood: and again click the down arrow to scroll through, this will add a smiley of your mood to the top of your finished blog. Then, you can make your blog,Public,Diary,Friends or Preferred List, once you are done click the Preview/Post button scroll down to where you see Post Blog,Edit or Cancel,if you are satisfied click Post Blog,if not Edit or Cancel. Now, you will see what you Blog looks like finished,Click your Home button.
Here comes the fun but tricky part to make your myspace page personal you might want to add a background, graphics or icons to your page.I am going to list a few sites that will aid in finding what you may like http://www.freeweblayouts.net/ this site offers free layouts for your background,on the right hand side of this page you will see myspace tools, this is where you want to browse. Here you can look up backgrounds to match your personality, whether you like sports, fashion, bands, cars or cartoons you are sure to find something, just take your time and scroll through your options.
Once you find something that you like you want to preview the myspace layout first, don't add,you will want to see what it looks like because some of the graphics may take up to much of the your page and you may not like the way it looks. If you like it click Auto Install, this page will have Add to profile already checked if everything looks good to you then, type in your myspace e-mail address and password click Post to myspace profile and it will add it in you About Me: section automatically (which that is where it needs to be) or if you don't trust the site you can do it manually by right clicking in the layout box on the code and choosing select all then copy go to your myspace page and in the Edit Profile About Me : section, paste the code, then you can preview the section or just click save all changes.
This is the same way that you will add icons, graphics and comments to your page and your friends pages. Here are a few links that are easy to follow http://123mycodes.com/ , http://123mycodes.com/ ,http://www.sparkletags.com/ ,http://www.marksgraphichelp.com/ ,http://www.commentyou.com/.
Don't feel overwhelmed when you look at these sites there is so much to choose from that it could take you awhile to find just what you are looking for but once you do,you are going to do the same thing as you did for your background, right click on the code (make sure you get codes fully),then add to whatever you want you want either your About Me section or the Interests section and save to your profile. Then view your profile and you will see what you have created, your own little masterpiece.Remember have fun with it and be patient.
Here is the link to my page that I made while I was writing this tutorial http://www.myspace.com/philandlana please feel free to check it out.
