Now spread one whole sheet of the paper on a table. Now be ready to mark the pattern. Choose either a waist apron or full apron up on the chest. If a half apron, it will need to be measured a little bigger for pleats. Next make the measurement at least 16 inches wider then regular size. Example; if measurement is 28 inches then it should be 44 inches, but cut on the straight edge of paper at 22 inches. The measurements for the band with ties should be 54 inches. Pockets can be cut if desired. They will be square, so cut them at 6 3/8 inches by 7 3/8 inches, the 3/8 inches for the seam. This pattern is finished.
First mark each piece as it is cut. When doing the pattern with the chest, measure the waist, example; if it measures 28 inches add 10 inches, which will be 38 inches. The total from the hem to the top of the chest should be 36 to 40 inches depending on the height. Now cut on straight edge of the paper, at the top 8 inches. At the edge of the paper measure 19 inches just about 4 inches above the waist, then mark. Now cut on a curve from the waist area to the top. Then measure, and now cut 12 inches by 4 inches for the ties. This pattern is finished and they both can be saved for future use.
After deciding which apron to make, then fold the material. Now pin the pattern down then mark. If making the half apron with the band, iron the band in half with good side out. Next iron then pin the 3/8 inch seam on the band to sew. Now pin then iron the darts. Next pin the hem, the length will depend no the measurements that is needed, now iron then sew. First sew across the darts. Be careful not to hit any pins. Now center the band on the apron. Next pin the band all the way across, along where the darts were sewn. Make sure that both sides of the band are caught when pinning, then sew. Next pin then sew the pocket on. Now sew the hem, this can be done with the sewing machine or hand sewn. This apron is finished.
When using the full pattern turn the ties where the good side is together, and then sew the 3/8 inch seam all the way around except one end. Now take a pencil or ruler to turn out. Then use a pin to pick the corners out, next iron. Next pin then iron the pockets with 1 3/8 inch hem down at the top. Then pin the 3/8 seam under the hem, then all the way around the pocket, then iron. If choose to double the apron, turn both sides of the material good side toward each other. Now pin placing two of the ties at the top inside close to the corners, making sure they are turned so the seam is inward. Place the other ties with the seam downward, one on each side under the arm area turned inward, at the turning point, sewing 3/8 inch seam. Do not sew the bottom all the way across, leaving about 8 inches, now turn out using a pin to pull corners, then sew as close to the edge as possible. Next pin then sew the pockets on, be sure the inside lining is pinned also. Now pin then sew another 3/8 inch around the edge of the whole apron. Make sure all is flat before sewing. Now the apron is finished. If making it without the inside liner, sew it the same way, except do not sew around the outside.
