Making Your Own Food Picks

Erin Kilgour
Making your own food picks to serve food with is something that brings spirit to both children's and adults' parties. Nothing is better for a birthday party theme than matching food picks. Making the picks is fairly easy using a few simple items you likely have in your home. You can also purchase craft items at your local craft store, such as pom-poms for a clown birthday party theme. Whatever the occasion, spruce up the spirit with your very own handmade food picks. When there is a theme involved, make your own picks that go along with the theme. and have the entire party ready for a celebration. They are not only good for serving horedires they are great for serving in a cocktail.

Step 1

Use a piece of clip art that is smaller than a toothpick. Run one hole through the bottom and out the top with the toothpick. Position the art so that it is toward the top of the toothpick.

Step 2

Use craft glue, and dip the end of the toothpick in the glue. Insert the pointy end of the toothpick into the foam bead and push the bead upward on the toothpick, making the glue go up, rather than down. Be creative and make up some ways. You can sew little characters and glue them onto the toothpick. Another idea is for New Years or Christmas partiy's do little stockings, santa claus, christmas, or champagne buckets. You can also do bells, which is great fun. There are a million ways that you can decorate the toothpick. Use your imagination and have fun. It is a great way to spice up a child's lunch or party. And, adults can have fun with the picks as well.

Step 3

Take the toothpick and and dip it in the craft glue. Take one plastic bead and push it up the toothpick. Take one or two foam beads and thread them up the toothpick. Go from the pointy end up, to avoid pushing the glue down. Let the glue dry and keep the toothpicks in a air tight container. Once you use the toothpicks, throw them away. Skill
