Making Road Trips More Fun

It is summer time and a vacation is long overdue. The kids are screaming to go out and you feel it is the right time to take off of work. A road trip is in the mist for you and your family, but a dilemma arises quickly. How are you going to make the road trip fun for the whole family? There are several ways in which you can do this.

First, figure out how long the trip will be. You can split the hours into half or leave it per hour if you desire. After you have figured this out, it becomes time for the planning stage. If you are taking a long trip that involves several hours of driving, there are ways to occupy the family time with interesting and very fun things. Depending on the age of your children you can involve them in sight seeing bingo. Sight seeing bingo involves simply putting a few pictures on a board that you can simply make at home. Each time one of your children finds a particular animal, place or whatever you choose to put on their boards, they simply say that they found it. After about four things they found they could yell out bingo. In doing this, they can also learn counting skills.

If you children are older you can involve them in audio books, or even games in which they name a lyric from a song that they may know. You would have to learn what music they are listening too and grab some lyrics and write them on a piece of paper or something in which you can keep track of them. The winner of each round, if you wanted to do rounds, could pick out the next place you stop to eat or the type of food for example. In doing this it could make the trip seem less boring for them and more enjoyable for you too.

If you are taking a shorter trip find little things for younger children to see. You can point out different landscapes or items along the road and ask them what they are. After they tell you explain what they do or how they interact with the environment. This will not only be fun for the younger ones, but also be a learning experience. If your shorter trip involves teenagers, ask them where they wish to eat or what they are looking forward to. You can try to get them involved in many conversations by asking about movies, activities they are involved in school or shopping you may be doing for a certain event.

Road trips don't have to be dull. You can spice them up by doing a few of these suggestions or making some of your own. Whether you may have younger or older children, they will have fun knowing that they are involved in the trip. You will have fun knowing that you have done something that can help ease the stress of traveling.
