Making Rose Body Butter

Sharon Schmidt Tyler

Rose body butter moisturizes your skin and revitalizes your soul. The combination of rich oils and scent gives this body butter a luxurious feel that nurtures your skin as you enjoy the feel of it. It has a deep scent that can envelop you while softening, smoothing, and scenting your skin.

If you prefer different oils or herbs, feel free to experiment and personalize this body butter to meet own personal preferences. I often use lavender and peppermint or lemongrass in place of the rose and patchouli essential oils. Just remember to keep the ratio of carrier oils, beeswax, and essential oils the same in order to keep the proper consistency. Also, remember to test for allergic reactions and sensitivity before using. You can use the oils and essential oils best suited for your skin type, to treat scrapes or skin problems, or just to moisturize your skin and smell good. Just remember to record your experiments so that you can repeat your favorite combinations, and avoid repeating those you do not like.

Ingredients:

10 Drops of rose absolute essential oil

10 Drops of geranium essential oil

5 Drops of patchouli essential oil

1 Tablespoon of beeswax

3 Tablespoons of rose macerated oil

2 Tablespoons of almond oil

2 Tablespoons of rosehip oil

Directions:

  1. Place the beeswax, rose macerated oil, rosehip oil, and almond oil in a bowl.

  2. Set the bowl over a saucepan of boiling water and turn off the heat.

  3. Stir the heating beeswax and oils until they have melted completely and are well blended.

  4. As the mixture begins to cool and emulsify, continue to stir and add the essential oils drop by drop.

  5. Pour the mixture into a glass jar and seal with a tight-fitting lid.

  6. Label the jar and leave it to set.

This will make around three and a half ounces of body butter. You can multiply the recipe to make more, either for yourself or to package and give as gifts. However, the body butter should be used within three months of being made, so do not get too carried away and make extra- large batches that might go to waste. A little of the body butter can go a long way.
