Making the Selection Process Work for Recruiters

Business Tips

K. Jackson,
In any business big or small I think that recruiting can be either the most challenging or the most rewarding, depending on the technique used. I myself know how challenging it is for recruiters trying to meet deadlines, making sure that a certain number of candidates are chosen within a time frame. Trust me been there done that, I do think that sometimes when overwhelmed with so many responsibilities for a company that recruiters may forget the key elements in selecting the best candidates for a job.

When it comes to the selection process this is something that recruiters or hiring managers can never take lightly, of course as recruiters or hiring managers you have certain responsibilities. However, in the interviewing process it is important that the focus is drawn to the applicants, the responsibility as a recruiter or hiring manager is to make sure that the person in front of you (applicant) is serious about whatever the job is available and that they have the skills needed.

It also helps to make sure that the interview questions are challenging, the questions should be directed to the applicant and their goals in business and their possible future in the business. Also finding out the applicants accomplishments also helps, although the applicant may not feel comfortable talking about themselves it is still important to determine if he or she is right for the job. The best thing to do is plan on what type of questions to ask, it is good to every so often come up with a list of new questions to give to applicants during an interview. Keep in mind that those questions should be able to help determine if the applicant is not only qualified but has good communication.

Another thing that recruiters and hiring managers should look for when interviewing applicants are questions from the applicants. In fact, I look at questions from the applicants as a sign of a true leader not follower, someone who will not hesitate to speak up when they are faced with issues. For any recruiter or hiring manager it is all about having confidence in your decisions and knowing that you are able to say that you are absolutely positive with your selection of employees.

When it comes to interviewing you can not rush into the selection process, it requires a lot of thinking and making sure that the applicants resume and responses match what your company is looking for.
