1.First I get the picture I want in the globe, bring it up into PSP, then go to Image and click on Image Information to get the size of your picture, so you will know what size to make the new page when you bring it up.
2.Next go to Effects and click on Geometric Effects and choose Circle. Your picture will be in a circle, this is how I get the right measurement for my globe to fit the picture every time.
3.After that go to File and bring up a new transparent page, go to tools and choose the wand and click on your circled picture and you will get an outline of dotted lines around your circle, and surrounding the outer area of it.
4.Now go to Selections and choose Invert. You will now have only the circled picture outlined. Copy and paste this onto your new transparent page.
Leave the outline of dotted lines around your circled picture and go to tools and select eraser and erase the entire picture out of the circle of dotted lines.
Now that you have a transparent circle with dotted lines.
5.Go to Effects and click on 3D Effects and then choose cutout. Here you will choose how you want your globe to look. For my globe it read like this: Vertical 26, Horizontal 21, Opacity 72, Blur 100. Shadow color black and check mark in the little box.
You can choose for yourself on the sliding scales how you want your globe to look, these are just the numbers I chose and looks best to me. After you have done this, click ok.
6.Now you have your orb, but you need add something to make it look like a globe. With your orb still encircled with the dotted lines go to your tools and choose Paintbrush, and right click on it and choose Tool Options in the little window with the options, make your Brush size 37, Hardness 0, Opacity 81, Step 25,Density 100. These will vary depending on the size of your picture and the size you want your accents.
7.Now go back to your orb and in the left top of the orb put a slash close to the edge where the dotted lines are, then do the same on the right bottom by the edge.
8.Now go to Effects click on Blur and choose Gaussian Blur. Now your globe is done to put on any picture you want.
Remember all of the settings for the different effects, will depend on the size of your picture. You will find that it is easy to determine the numbers once you see how the globe is going to turn out. When you have a finished globe with picture of your choice, you can decorate it any way you like. Add a base on the bottom of it and you have a beautiful globe.
There is no limit to what you can do with these globes. I have made mine by putting a snow applet in which can be viewed here.
Which is another other lesson, which is a little more difficult. But fun to do.
