Autumn colors falls, bird wings beat south
Ladybugs and beetles squeeze into cracks and crevices
Ants do not journey to the outside world
Chickadees and nuthatches alike store their seeds
Woodpiles are stocked for the fireplace
Pantries are filled with warm delights
Sweater and heavy coats are dug out,
and made ready

Winter comes
Ice wind snow --
Blows and hurls through the air
Snowmen are built
snow angels are made
And I
Ease into your warmth
Soft and supple
Your heat becomes mine
It seems the middle of August
