Making Twitter Fun

Why?

Simple.

Twitter isn't "fun."

It didn't take me long to access her statement and agree. Business wise, this is actually a benefit of Twitter not a deficit. Nonetheless, there are things that can be done in the way of making Twitter fun.

Why, as a businessperson, should you strive to do this?

Easy.

When someone sees that another is enjoying what they are doing it is extremely intriguing leading to more people looking at your offerings resulting in potentially more business contacts in the long run.

1. Build Creatively

Your success on Twitter begins with you creating an extremely enticing profile that others will enjoy spending time with. You can do this by creating a brand with your user name, and profile information. I have a friend on Twitter that has a picture of a chocolate dipped strawberry and goes by the user ID of ImmaChocoholic. She is building an image that people respect and remember.

2. Sweet Tweets

While I certainly promote concepts like retweets and saying thank you for nice gestures. If you do this in the way everyone else does then you will simply look like everyone else. Sometimes I have no choice due to limited amounts of time. However, when I can I have fun with the 140 character allotment that Twitter provides me.

For example, if I want to focus on a particular persons kindness my tweet would look something like this.

WARNING ------------------------ #Follow [User ID] -------------------- Their Twitteriffic.

3. TwitWall HitWall

TwitWall is a tool I use regularly. When I first found it I installed in on my Twitter profile immediately.

Why not?

It's free!

Now I have contests, play games, share funny pictures and much more all from my TwitWall. The amount of attention this brings me is incredible. Of course, I have links to critical places for my offerings for people to see when they arrive. But the less I focus on the end goal and the more I'm a real person the better the reactions I am personally receiving.

4. Quizzically Puzzled

I also find cool websites like Fun140 that have quizzes people can take to find out what kind of chocolate or kisser they are. While these certainly aren't business related tools, done right they can bring attention to you from people that are interested in what you have to offer.

It's true. Twitter is not FaceBook and it certainly isn't MySpace.

This is actually to its credit.

However, their still are ways we can go about making Twitter fun while maintaining and carrying a professional image. It just takes a little creativity to find out the best way to do this from your particular keyboard.
