Making Yourself a Home On-Line Using Free On-Line Resources

6 Resources You Should Consider

Lindsey Russell
There are so many online resources out there now, most for free. Which should be considered? These 6 resources are the best of the best.

Free Online Resource #1 - Google.com and Yahoo.com

Both Google and Yahoo! allow users to personalize their homepage. In addition, each offers a wide range of services that meet most needs that on-line users have. That includes e-mail, address books, file storage, blogs, games, and more. The list is just about endless. Many on-line users make the mistake of not fully investigating and personalizing these extremely popular sites.

Free Online Resource #2 - Livejournal.com

Live Journal, for those who do not know, is the predecessor to MySpace.com. While Live Journal isn't as fancy as My Space, it is a great site for those wishing to keep a simple online journal. There are lots of opportunities for customization and personalization. In addition, one of the best features of Live Journal is the sense of community. You can simply subscribe to any Live Journal community that piques your interest. There are communities for just about anything. However, if you find a niche that has yet to be filled, you can start your own community. While the basic membership is completely free, there are several different membership options in a wide variety of price ranges. The more you pay, the more features to which you have access.

Free Online Resource #3 - Blogger.com

Blogger.com, which just left the testing "beta" phase of its development, is the free blogging website developed by Google. It is very easy to use and can be customized very easily. While more advanced bloggers may wish for a more comprehensive blogging service, blogger is a wonderful option for those not wishing to get too technical or those just beginning blogging.

Free Online Resource #4 - Webshots.com

Web Shots not only offers tons of great pictures that anyone can use for the wallpaper and screensavers on their computers, you can use Web Shots to organize and share your own digital photos. It is completely free and it is easy to network with friends and family that use Web Shots as well.

Free Online Resource #5 - Photobucket.com

Photo Bucket is useful in several different ways. Not only can you use it as a free host for your digital photos, it is a wonderful way to include photos in your blog or on-line journal. Once you upload a photo to Photo Bucket, you are given three different ways in which you can embed the code into your other on-line ventures.

Free Online Resource #6 - Ourstory.com

Our Story is another website that you can easily turn into your own home online. Not only can you use this website as an online journal, you can also connect with family and friends to create a truly comprehensive narrative of your family history. In the end, you will have a collection of personal histories in addition to a collective family history. This website also just went out of beta. It is easy to use, and once again, it is completely free.

There are so many great websites, free on-line resources, out there that it can be difficult to find the right one for you. Whether you are into photography, connecting with family and friends, journaling, blogging, or just the news, there are options that are right for you. There is no need to pay a dime. There are plenty of free online resources that allow people to make a home for themselves online. Hopefully this article provided some insight to sites other than MySpace.com.
