Malaprop's Book Store and Café is an independent bookstore, locally owned and operated in Asheville, North Carolina. Located in the middle of the eclectic downtown atmosphere, Malaprop's is a great place to relax and get into a good book. The bookstore has been in Asheville for 25 years and is running strong.

Malaprop's Book Store and Café has a wide selection of books to fit any number of reading appetites. Every day the store has events scheduled. There are Meet the Author nights where you can meet an author and have a book signed, and book club meetings, among many other things. You can check out the website here for a list of events, and even add yourself to their mailing list to be notified of future events. The website offers books for sale, and gift cards, too.

Monthly, the store has many different gatherings. There is the What If? Speculative Fiction Club that meets the last Monday of every month at 7 p.m to discuss the book of the month, which can also been seen at the website. The Malaprop's Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. and the current book is being sold at 10% off the regular rate. They also gather monthly to discuss women in literature, but are flexible about that program. The Bridging Differences book club does not have a set meeting time advertised, and the book list is subject to change. For more information, you can consult the website. Poetix Café is an open mic poetry night that takes place on the fourth Tuesday of every month starting at 7 p.m.

In addition to all these gatherings of various book clubs and events, the café offers great food like scones and coffee, at very affordable prices. The store even sells merchandise so you can show your support to one of the few independently owned and operated bookstores left in the country. If you are looking for something rare or out of print, be sure to check these people out. They also have a "sister store" called Downtown Books and News which sells used books.

With all the gatherings they host monthly, it is a great chance to read a great book or two and get to know some new people. If you are ever in the Asheville, North Carolina area, be sure to stop by and check this place out. You will be amazed at the diversity and the kindness you see, and it will keep you coming back for more every time.
