Malicious Virus Goes Viral ; Beware of Emails Titled "Here You Have It" Hoax or No?

Candice
Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on should read this. This information arrived this morning in my Yahoo inbox, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

I'm tired of getting emails with WARNING! VERYIMPORTANT! READ THIS! VIRUS WARNING!
It seems every other day I receive one with some version of this in the subject line. So I decided to do a bit of research on one I received today, called; Malicious Virus Goes Viral; Beware of Emails Titled "Here You Have It" and came up with the following information...YOU decide.

abcnews.go.com-"A global e-mail virus spammed inboxes Thursday afternoon, slowing -- and in some cases halting -- work at offices around the world as employees watched their inboxes inexplicably fill with e-mails under the subject line "Here you have." Some workers were forced to go without e-mail altogether, as the flood of spam put their services out of commission. Organizations including NASA, Comcast, AIG, Disney, Proctor & Gamble, Florida Department of Transportation and Wells Fargo are just a few of the organizations apparently affected by the worm, which appears to have sent out hundreds of thousands, if not millions of e-mails".

And from About.com an anaylsis performed by David Emery, says, 'it does not circulate as an attached file, nor will downloading it cause you to "lose everything in your PC" or your personal information to be transmitted to the author of the malicious program. What it does do, should your PC become infected, is attempt to disable your antivirus protection and send copies of the email to everyone in your address book. Symantec offers a removal tool and technical information here." Read more about it here on about.com.

Hoax Slayer has this to say about the "Here You Have It"
Revamped 'Life Owner' Hoax Uses Name of Real Virus - 'Here You Have It' Hoax Version,
"Message warns users to watch out for emails with the subject "Here you have it" because they contain a very dangerous computer virus that allows a hacker named "life owner" access to the infected computer. The warning claims that the user will lose everything on the infected computer and that the virus cannot be removed by anti-virus software.- Hoax Slayer says, "it is nothing more than a revamped version of the old "Life is beautiful" virus hoax. While Internet users would be wise to make themselves aware of the genuine "Here you have" threat, passing on this highly inaccurate and misleading warning is counterproductive and will help no one".-Published: 15th October 2010 ."

In other words, better to be safe then sorry, so don't open ANY emails that you are not sure of the sender, or from someone you don't know. But make your own decision, and don't always believe what you read in an email.

Says it's a virus and it isn't. Got a message from my bank that was a virus carrier. You never know what to trust.

Thanks for the warning. It also helps to always have the latest version of your virus/spam software. Some need to be updated almost every day but it can help.

Lately, I've been getting e-mails from an old friend with nothing but a link, so I delete them all. This friend has not sent me anything in years and now sends a bunch of e-mails? Unfortunately, I had to block the friend's e-mail, even though I knew they weren't really from that person.
