NEW YORK - Republican Ryan Brumberg claims to be challenging Democrat Carolyn Maloney for NY's 14th District Congressional seat in the upcoming election. Who's Ryan Brumberg? I never heard of him until September 14th when he won the primary. Carolyn Maloney, on the other hand, I have heard of. She's been the 14th District's Congresswoman for the last 18 years.

Brumberg may claim to be Maloney's challenger but he's no challenge for Maloney. Sorry, I know it's a bummer for Brumberg and his fans but it's also a fact. He cannot beat Maloney for most of the same reasons I reported Saujani couldn't beat Maloney in my article, "NY Politics: Maloney Will Skunk Saujani in Democratic Primary." It's like déjà vu. And Maloney did skunk Saujani, 89 to 19. As the circumstances are similar in November's election, the outcome should be similar. Maloney will massacre Brumberg.

The reasons for this upcoming massacre are easy to understand.

Political Experience - In addition to her 18 years in Congress, Maloney also served on the NYC Council for 10 years. Her political experience is so extensive it cannot be listed here. To learn more click here. Brumberg has no political experience on his own behalf. He was a member of Peter Hort's Congressional campaign in 2004.

Life Experience - Maloney is 64 years old. She has raised a family and has the wisdom that only comes with experience. Brumberg is 28. He is so young he is a NY Young Republican and has beseeched their campaign help.

Public Service - Maloney's public service is extensive in an array of areas including women's issues, the economy, health, foreign affairs and much more. Brumberg has performed no public service that I know of. He has three years of experience in the private sector as a management consultant.

Issues - Congresswoman Maloney makes her views clear on a long list of issues on her website. Brumberg offers his views on four issues. Perhaps, I should say three issues and a smidge for his views on foreign policy are scant. He makes no mention of women's issues at all. Women gained the right to vote in America in 1920. Brumberg has not been out of school very long. Perhaps he missed a history class and needs to go back and brush up?

Primary Votes - Maloney received 26,303 votes in the 2010 Primary. Brumberg received 3,131 votes.

We can clearly see some of the reasons for the large difference in these votes. I'm sure the people of the 14th District which includes the East Side of Manhattan, Astoria, Queens, all of Roosevelt Island, much of Long Island City, Sunnyside and parts of Woodside will see them as well.

Thus, Maloney will massacre Brumberg.

I live in the 14th District and I want Congresswoman Maloney to continue to represent me. I can't help but wonder why the Republicans didn't offer the people a more experienced candidate if they wanted to capture the Congressional seat.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
