MAMA

Dear God. I love mama so much. I Just don't understand. Sh'e always tired now. In the morning she goes to work, then she comes home and goes to bed. She don't want to do anything anymore. I mean don't get me wrong, I know she loves us kids and all, but it gets me all scared inside. She acts like she don't care no more. Like she done give up already and she still got plenty of time left as far as we all concerned. She's just work'n to get food an make sure we got somes place to live. Don't let her go away cause' I need her. She can't just give up.

(Michael(brother) walks in a lays down on is bed).

Michael:

Damn pray'n again ain't you? Get'n all God-an-mighty? Well I's just tell you right now that ain't no pray'n to the sky gonna help none no matter what you's say. It's just hope is all. Everyone need some type of hope I guess. Then again yous just a young'un still - don't know much about noth'n.

Joshua:

An what do yous know that's so impo'tant? Yous don't know noth'n more than me. I's just pray'n for mama. She needs us ya know.

Michael:

Well she needs you - but she don't say much to me while's you around. Ain't no pray'n gonna stop her from dy'in. Yous and me both know that. She thinks she gonna die real soon too. I think she wants to. She don't have noth'n to live for no more. 'Cept you. Yous her pride and joy. She thinks you got some type of life ahead of you, but me and dad know exactly where yous gonna end up - in the po' house just like us. Ain't no mama's baby'n gonna help none either. This world just gonna chew yous up real hard and spit you out on your ass. You ain't got noth'n and you know it. Ain't no sass'n and kisses gonna make you no rich and famous Jerry. Fact you gonna die a po' man too. As I sees it, I's the only one smart enough to realize it. I don't believe all the crap about mak'n it and be'in what you dream to be. Long as yous got a job and a roof over your head, yous alive and that's the most you can expect.
