After returning home from the hospital, my husband was able to take off work for a week. Boy did I greatly appreciate that! Though the beautiful little "package" was born from me, I was completely "wet behind the ears" and had no idea of how I would get through the days and nights without assistance. The first week home flew by, and before I knew it, my husband was returning to work. I was absolutely scared at the thought of being left alone with this little person who cried at the drop of a hat! I felt almost helpless. However, in time, with the assistance of my husband and mother, I became comfortable and even realized the joy of taking care of my beautiful baby.
I found breastfeeding to be one of the most interesting experiences. It's amazing the bond that can grow between a mother and her baby just from this simple, yet vital act.
Some of my most trying experiences were at night. I would laugh so much inside, yet with a bit of disappointment due to my sleep deprived state. The fact is that as soon as I would swaddle her after she fell asleep, and lay her down in the crib, her eyes would come open. Then it was back out to the front room to watch Nick At Nite, and again attempt to lull her to sleep.
I look back over those months and I cannot believe how they flew by! Now I have plenty of fun with her. We play together, laugh, she "lobster claws" my face and nose, and she's in the "da da" phase. I look forward to many more fun stories of my maternal experiences with my baby.
