Mama Melrose's Disney Hollywood Studios Restaurant Review

Mama Melrose Restaurant at Walt Disney World

Mama Melrose's is an Italian themed restaurant located at Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World Resort, and Orlando Florida. Mama Melrose's has a nice selection of pasta dishes and flatbread (pizza). The atmosphere is relaxing with soft music and dimmed lighting. The restaurant was packed with families when we were dining but the atmosphere still managed to be quiet and comfortable.

Like all restaurants on Walt Disney World property, the theming is quite good. The decorations are interesting to look at while waiting for food to be served. The background music is excellent and just adds to the overall atmosphere. Mama Melrose's features an open kitchen in the front which is nice to walk by but isn't viewable by most tables.

The food was excellent. We enjoyed the complimentary bread with olive oil and pepper dipping sauce. My entrée was spaghetti fra diavolo with clams, calamari, mussels and shrimp tossed in a spicy Mariana sauce. I was being adventurous because I had never had mussels or clams before and I did not regret it. The fra diavolo was excellent. My dinner companion had the charred butcher tender steak with gorgonzola butter on roasted red pepper polenta with a red wine reduction sauce. I tried a bite and it was also excellent. The prices were a little high ($19.99 and $20.99) but seemed worth it since the food was so good.

The desserts were not as impressive. With only five uninteresting choices, we finally decided on the crema limone and chocolate truffle cake. The crema limone was ok but the chocolate truffle cake was terrible. They were definitely not worth their price ($6.99 and $5.99).

The service was excellent. We had a very attentive waitress who refilled our drinks and checked on us several times. My only complaint on the service is that I thought the hostess checking people in was a little rude. I can't remember exactly what she said to me now but I do remember being offending by her attitude. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming she was stressed because the waiting area was very small and was packed with people trying to avoid the rainy weather.

Overall, I was very impressed with the food and service at Mama Melrose's Restaurant. I keep dreaming of the spaghetti fra diavolo and look forward to trying that dish again on future visits. I give the restaurant five out of five stars.
