Cheryl Engelke
Next to Mexican food, my life would not be complete without Italian food. I love Italian food; the more cheese the better. From ravioli to manicotti, lasagna to calzones, and don't forget pizza! I love it all! In the Conroe, Texas, there are several great places to get your Italian food fix. Since I am a self proclaimed Italian food connoisseur, I will share with you the best Italian restaurants in the Conroe area.

First, if you want to get your pasta fill without breaking the bank, you have to try Joe's Pizza and Pasta. Joe's is relatively new to Conroe but has quickly become a town favorite. They offer authentic New York style Italian food at a very good price. Weekly lunch specials for $5.95 are a particular favorite. Endless homemade rolls and overflowing dishes make for a very yummy meal. The family friendly atmosphere is cozy and the service is great. Full menu online and take out is available. Try the Italian Sampler; lasagna and manicotti over a bed of penne pasta, smothered in sauce and lots of cheese.

Italian Grille Ristorante is another favorite of mine. Chef John is fabulous and his creations are divine. If you want to feel like you have stepped foot in Italy without leaving Conroe, this is the place to go. Everyone is friendly and welcomes you with open arms. If you are in a hurry for lunch, they have an express buffet Monday through Friday 11a.m. to 2 p.m. They are also very kid friendly, offering Kids Eat Free ALL DAY Monday through Wednesday with the purchase of an adult meal. Catering and take out are also available. How about the FORGITABOUTIT COMBO; three large homemade meatballs and Italian sausage topped with mozzarella, marinara, and freshly grated pecorino Romano cheese. Can you say "Yum"?

Serving the Conroe area since 1991, Coronelli's Villa Italia is a great place for classic Italian fare. Located on the courthouse square in downtown Conroe, Villa Italia is great for a romantic night out. The food is wonderfully authentic and the service is some of the best I have ever experienced. They offer catering, will host parties and special events, and you can even hire a personal chef for the evening. Villa Italia is a great choice for the extraordinary. Norma, the owner is from Sicily and the restaurant has the best recipes with ingredients that are always fresh.
