Mamma Mia! the Movie DVD Release December 16: Movie Trivia and Fan Links

The Perfect Christmas Gift for ABBA Fans! My Daughter and I Are Hooked

Aly Adair
Mamma Mia! - The Movie is an international hit bringing in over $559 million with Meryl Streep getting a Golden Globe Best Actress nomination and looking at a sequel if she gets her three love interests back in the cast. Mamma Mia! The Movie is also nominated for a Golden Globe Best Musical and the sountrack is nominated for a Grammy.

I first saw ABBA perform live when I was in college in Denver during the late 1970's. They performed at a Denver nightclub for a $3 cover charge. After hearing the angelic voices and perfect harmonies of Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, I was hooked on ABBA for life! Now, after my 31-year old daughter and her friends have seen Mamma Mia! - The Movie, they are hooked on ABBA too.

The Mamma Mia! - The Movie DVD releases on December 16 just in time for Christmas. Meryl Streep is brilliant and the movie is fantastic even though Pierce Brosnan cannot sing. The movie stars: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski. If you are a Baby Boomer mother who has raised a young daughter as a single parent, you will LOVE Mamma Mia! - The Movie and the ABBA songs.

Mamma Mia! - The Movie Trivia

If you haven't seen Mamma Mia! - The Movie, I won't give spoilers but one big question the Mamma Mia! fans have is who really is Sophie's father? Sophie's father is not revealed in either the musical or the movie. If you want to see the answer, click here.

If you own the soundtrack to Mamma Mia! - The Movie, you might wonder why Chiquitita is not on the soundtrack. One reason might be that ABBA gave the rights to the song to UNICEF and possibly could not work out an agreement for a small royalty on the sales of the soundtrack. The song can be performed, but recording it and selling the CD is another matter.

The story line for the Mamma Mia musical version was adapted from the 1968 film Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell.
