Mammogram Results Wait Time Goal 48 Hours

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) opens its newest clinic today. The Breast Imaging Center has "dedicated mammographers and fellowship-trained breast radiologists, who work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of cancer specialists including breast surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, " according to the PAMF.

What this means to Palo Alto residents is a significant reduction in wait time after a mammogram. The typical mammogram can take weeks to get results, and then more time to set up a course of action for treatment. Now with the new equipment at the PAMF, "the Center's goal is to reduce the time from finding a breast lump to a definitive course of action to 48 hours," according to PAMF.

One of the best courses of action in the treatment of breast cancer is early detection and early treatment. They also intend to keep up with cutting edge technology. Next year they plan on installing a new piece of imaging equipment when it is available from the manufacturer.

The new clinic is at 49 Wells, just behind the main building off El Camino Real.
