Man Beats "Vampire" Peacock to Death at NYC Burger King

According to the Associated Press, a brightly colored peacock accidentally walked into a fast-food restaurant's parking lot. However, the bird was not humanely taken away.

Animal control authorities in New York said that the beautiful bird was attacked by a man in the Burger King parking lot on account that he believed the peacock was a vampire and needed to be killed.

The man did not shoot the peacock, or hit it with his car. He beat the peacock so hard that most of its vivid tail feathers were either pulled and ripped or fell out, reported the Associated Press.

Richard Gentles, a spokesman for the city's Center for Animal Care and Control, said "It's just unbelievable that someone would do something to a poor, defenseless animal and do it in such a cruel fashion."

The bird was a male peacock, several years old. He reportedly wandered into the Staten Island Burger King park lot and calmly perched on the hood of a car early Thursday morning.

The vicious man was not the only one to see the bird. In fact, amazed employees went outside and fed the peacock bits of bread from the Burger King's kitchen when all of a sudden the man appeared, said the Associated Press.

One of the workers feeding the bird, Felicia Finnegan, 19, said he grabbed the innocent peacock by the neck and flung it to the ground and started kicking and beating the defenseless animal. "He was going crazy," she said.

Employees started pleading with the man and asking what he was doing. All he said was, "I'm killing a vampire!'"

Immediately employees called the police, but when they showed up, the man fled the scene. Authorities are still out looking for the peacock attacker. He is in his teens or early 20s, reported the Associated Press.

Unfortunately, the bird did not survive the attack. He was so badly beaten that he had to be euthanized at a local animal hospital.

"The bird was a male peacock."
As opposed to what? A female peahen?
The name of the bird is a 'peafowl' males are peacocks, and females are peahens.
    It's like saying:
    "It was a male rooster."

And I think the would-be vampire hunter was high.

Wow it was such a beautiful bird..... how could someone do that! It was really sad.
He was also crazy, how could he think that bird was a vampire?
    ...Jerk....

I'm sorry, but this guy is awesome.
He totally saved all our asses from that undead nightmare.
    Ungrateful, all of you.

sick crazy piece of crap. I just don;t get why onlookers did'nt go and stop him. Its a sad world lately. My father saved a drowning man last week in the ocean, while everyone else sat there and did nothing. My father who is 60 years old dragged in a dying man. No one on shore even called 911 until prompted to do so.
Too many onlookers, yet not enough heros. It's just sad.

That is so sad. Hopefully, the man who did this will get the help that he so obviously needs.

It is scarey to think that a psycho like that is running around, and probably really believed that it was a vampire! great reporting, it is sad, but a great story.

"It was not clear how the bird made his way to the Burger King, but a Staten Island resident who raises peacocks said he had given some to a person who lives near the restaurant." Sorry I left this out, guys! I hope this clears things up for anyone who is wondering =] Thanks for all your comments.
