Man Breaks Neck, Pelvis in Apparent Second-Story Fall

Allegedly Had Been Drinking

It is a strange situation and noticeable because a man fell, apparently, 34 feet and lived although the residuals were not pleasant. The incident occurred in Boulder, Colo. A 20-year-old man was found, after enduring what appeared to be a 34-foot-fall, lying on the ground outside of an apartment building.

Vanessa Miller, a Camera Staff Writer, has posted an article on the Daily Camera website titled "Boulder police: Man breaks neck after falling from apartment window."

The man is from Washington. His identity has not been released and further it is unknown whether he is a resident or student or, just visiting.

The man was found lying on the ground just short of 1 a.m. MST. He was conscious despite having a broken neck and pelvis. He was in pain and apparently was moaning as a result of the pain.

He came out of a second story window.

What has me confused is the determination that this man fell. I'm not saying he didn't; I'm just curious how the determination was made.

There is a lady who was a witness prior to the man going out of the window. According to her he was "kneeling on the floor." It seems from the description that he was in a nonactive mode because the phrase used from Miller's article is that he suddenly "sprang to life" and ran out the only window in the lady's room. That sounds more like a jump to me but that's just me.

The witness lived in the room where the party was being held and apparently walked in on the man where she found him kneeling.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kobel advised the press that the man had been drinking.

It seems it may have been an inside window since the location where the man was found was in the apartment building's courtyard.

The injured man was transported to Boulder Community Hospital by paramedics. His condition at this time is unknown.

It's hard to know exactly what happened. He certainly could have fallen. He could have jumped and frankly he could have been pushed.

The only thing that is for sure is when you get a lot of people partying and at least one, the victim, was underage and drinking, anything can happen.
