So what do you do when you are in a chat room on the Internet, and someone says that they want to hang themselves? A man in England found out in the worse way possible. He threatened and was cheered on to his death.
This is truly a gloomy situation when this happens. This man was depressed and had gone into a full chat room, and made the threat. The abnormal reaction was go for it, and what are you waiting for, do it and get it over with. The result was that he hung himself. Those who gladly encouraged his actions on are now in hot water. The official term that has been given to this type of suicide is individualization, and is in a current upswing by desperate and dispirited people. The laws of both England and The United States are that you can be brought up on charges of aiding and abetting the act of suicide which is illegal. What are your thoughts concerning this? Do you genuinely believe those who cheered this man on to executing himself should face charges? If you were in a chat room, and someone threatened to commit suicide, what would you do?
In a related news event, a man dies after making a video documentary of his addiction to methamphetamines. This gentleman was positive right to the death, but his demise was inevitable, and is now chronicled on video. According to Shawn Bridge's family, Shawn had already died twice and was brought back to life by shocking the heart back to life. This is a sad story and more relevant details can be seen at: MAN DIES AFTER RECORDING OWN ADDICTION.
What are your views on different people videoing their last days on video recorders and then having it available for others to frequently see? Do you consider this type of reality will help others to understand the hurt and terrible way that they die? Do you genuinely think it will scare some to stop drug addictions? Would you watch a video like this?
With the constantly growing Internet, and technology there will be more shocking videos, and immediate remarks made that cause severe outcomes. We have occasionally seen high school kids beating other kids up while their trusted friends videoed it on the cell phone, and then loaded onto sites like YOUTUBE. We have occasionally watched different people make ill fated comments by people doing the same video phone routine, and we witness Public officials being truly embarrassed by comments, etc. by these same methods. Is this true freedom of speech, or is it an outrageous assault on one's privacy? We have further seen the unauthorized display of videos by lovers, friends, and family members of people's antics when drunk, or on drugs, and this has been published. Do you feel that the PUBLIC has the right to everything personal involving different people? Does this recent found exposure cause you to be worried about what people may release about you, or other family members?

Post a CommentWow funbags, you're lucky you have anonymity on the internet. I'm sure in real life you would have kept your mouth shut.
you wrote letters by hand and had to invest more time and money, if you had to fight to speak, or to get people to listen to you, or grew up speaking only when spoken to (i.e. LISTENING) you'd value words more
stuff like this happens because people don't value words or people and the internet makes everything more impersonal still
How could they have known? They couldn't have. You can't tell all sorts of things in life. That's why we're careful about so many things in life, prepared for things that may never happened--that's why we walk through the world with open eyes. No one ever knows what will happen next. That's not an excuse for stupidity or cruelity.
What was the point of telling the man to go ahead and kill himself? Did the people in the chat room get anything substantive out of it? The purpose of speaking is to communicate. Words have power. If you aren't attempting to communicate, if you assume that no one is going to listen to you, then there's no point in opening your mouth.
@funbags....please! granted some people do abuse crying suicide, but it's still a cry for help, whether they're depressed or have some other problem. it's sad all around, because when people do mean it they are ignored or driven over the edge
if you wrote letters by hand and had to invest more time and money, if
I'm just glad to see someone who talks about committing suicide actually doing it for once. I'm sick of all these kids talking and talking and talking about it and never following through with it! Great work. Pity he can only do it once!!!
blarg!
Well, I don't know how we're supposed to know if a person's serious on the net. I've seen countless people talk about suicide but most aren't serious.
Sobering thoughts but well written article - good work
Unbelievable and sad. Good reporting!
Wow! I'm speechless -
That is horrible however I'm not in favor of them having charges pressed against them. How would they have known that the guy was going to actually kill himself. I don't see a problem with someone documenting their death on video. Death is a part of life and if someone wants to educate the public the danger of drugs, or whatever else, I'm okay with it. However, I am not okay with it being commercialized i.e. Faces of Death syle and I see no need for that type of "documentary" to be broadcast.
