Man from England Claims to Have Broken the New Sleep Deprivation Record

Eleven Days and Eleven Nights of No Sleep

According to the BBC , Tony Wright, from England has broken the sleep deprivation record by staying awake for eleven days and eleven nights. Mr. Wright states that he accomplished the sleep deprivation task by drinking lots of tea, keeping a diary and playing pool. Unfortunately, the Guinness Book of Records has since withdrawn its backing of the sleep deprivation class because of health risks associated with it, including the risk of temporary insanity.

Terry Wright claims to have eaten only raw food during his ordeal hoping that it would help his brain to stay functional and awake. He also believed that his raw food diet allowed him to switch between the two different sides of his brain, and that this study could change human lifestyles by consuming different diets.

Mr. Wright states that this was a research project for him, as he wanted to see if he could stay awake for long periods of time and remain functional at the same time. Mr. Wright's eleven days and nights were monitored by webcam, and he also frequently chatted with friends.

Similar to an LSD acid trip, colors appeared very bright to him, and he also saw giggling dancing pixies and elves on his computer screen. He suffered blisters on his feet from all-night pool playing, and it sounds as if Mr. Wright went to extreme measures to conquer the sleep deprivation record.

It's interesting though that no one has asked Mr. Wright if he has ever experimented with LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), a very popular hallucinogenic drug during the 1960s. LSD causes hallucinations by disrupting the interaction of nerve cells. This also appeared to happen to Mr. Wright during his sleep deprivation ordeal, as sleep deprivation can cause people to also see images, hear sounds, and feel sensations that seem real but simply do not exist anywhere except in the subjects own mind. For those of you who have experienced LSD trips and/or sleep deprivation for long periods, you will understand what Mr. Wright endured. For those of you who don't understand, so much the better. You really don't want to know.

According to Does Sleep Deprivation Lead to Insanity, there is controversy as to whether prolonged sleep deprivation can cause temporary insanity, and this has been somewhat proven by Mr. Wrights' experience of imaginary dancing elves and pixies on his computer screen.

I can state from personal experience that after staying up for three days and nights, I did see auras around people and heard voices. But, I can also state that the auras disappeared after a good night's sleep.
