He was able to fend off the attacker until local authorities arrived at the scene. Thankfully there were no injuries to any of the guests only some damaged clothing. The man with the knife was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon; while the brave guest wielding the candy cane was determined to have acted in self defense. Candy canes 1, Knives 0.
Who would have ever thought to use a holiday lawn ornament to fight off a knife! This just goes to show that any object, no matter how ridiculous, can be used for defense. And why would a man try to attack his next door neighbor, on thanksgiving no less? Well yes, neighborly feuds are quite common and can get ugly. But hopefully this story teaches us two things: 1) To be a whole lot more rational with neighborly aggression and 2) Not to pick up any kind of knife while intoxicated. You might just end up getting beat down by a lawn ornament!
