Man Updates 2009 "Screwed by the Town of Cary" Message with 2011 Cancer Sign

Delivering a Sign of Battles to Come

19 months ago "Screwed By The Town of Cary" would dominate national headlines as North Carolina's David Bowden struck back against town officials with the message in bright letters painted on the front of his Cary home. 19 months later, Bowden updates his 2009 message with a 2011 cancer sign. But don't expect him to give up.

During 2009 the Town of Cary's construction project along Maynard Road took out lawns, including Mr. Bowden's yard and, as Mr. Bowden claims, caused issues in water drainage.

The water ran into Bowden's home causing damage. Cary offered to fix a gutter they thought to be the source of his issues but Bowden wanted them to fix the damages inside of his house. So, Bowden protested - in bright [orange / red] lettering - on the front of his house - spotlights at night and noted by day - readable at speeds of 45 mph...

"Screwed By The Town of Cary!"

Bowden's special message remained on the house during the Town's request for it to be removed. Remained on the house despite fine threats in the hundreds. Remained on the house during holidays. Remained on the house since July of 2009, until recently.

Chief Judge Louise Flanagan ruled that the Town of Cary violated Mr. Bowden's rights and noted the Town of Cary's failure to focus on other areas of Ordinance. Most can agree after seeing the big banners advertising Lady Daze and large holiday greetings from post to post in downtown Cary [to name just two examples].

The Feb. 16, 2011 Town of Cary news release supports official confusion. The Town of Cary officials couldn't disagree more with Flanagan's ruling. Cary may take their case to the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, VA if that's what it takes to change the current course.

The Town of Cary seemingly does not give up. The same could be said about Mr. Bowden. Who, by the way, decided to update his protest - in bright [yellow] caps - on the front of his house - spotlights at night and noted by day - readable at speeds of 45 mph...

"STILL SCREWED BY THE TOWN OF CARY
COME SEE SOME OF CARY'S FINEST ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION WORK
GUIDED TOURS AVAILABLE
OH, BY THE WAY, NOW I HAVE LUNG CANCER
BUT REMEMBER I PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT"

And who could disagree...
