Statistics shows that every year developed nations are dumping tones of hazardous e-waste materials illegally to the third world countries without taking necessary precautions. It causes innumerable problems for people living there. Many are just not aware about how serious this issue has become or they are just playing ignorant on the darker side. There are many toxic materials contained in e-waste and it includes mercury, lead, cadmium etc. all are poisonous and cause damage body functions permanently. When E-waste are disposed without care, it can ruin peoples health by contaminating the water sources. Every year new gadgets and computer systems and coming into the market, which replaces slower computers. The old systems have their bad fate of being thrown out into garbage without care. No body is going to upgrade systems any more as the new components are designed not to be compatible in the old computers and gadgets. This trend of use and throw is going to have a serious impact on our environment.
A strong awareness is required for both users and manufacturers of electronic products on their respective roles in curbing the growth of hazardous e-waste. Manufacturers of computer systems or electronic gadgets on their part should take serious initiative to make components that are compatible with older system or they should concentrate on making components which could make an old system works more faster to the maximum extent possible. They should refrain from their marketing propaganda of urging people to dispose their old systems and buy new one. Also they need to spend money on research for safe alternatives to be used in their components, which can make our planet a better place. Users on their part should be clear about how to dispose electronic wastes safely and they should follow the policies and procedures for disposing e-waste safely without affecting our eco system.
