Managing Incontinence in the Workplace
Managing Incontinence at Work is Tricky, but These Tips Will Do the Trick in Making it Easier
If you work a job that is extremely demanding that does not allow for too many bathroom breaks, it will do you well to wear an extra absorbent diaper. This will keep the moisture away from your skin so as to avoid diaper rash, and it will prevent urine from leaking onto your clothes. But, if you are in a situation that requires you to change diapers often, such as with fecal incontinence, you will want to talk to your boss about having more frequent bathroom breaks. People with medical conditions, by law, have to be granted bathroom breaks, if this is what is needed to help with the management of the condition. If you are worried about your boss being a major jerk about it, come prepared with a doctor's note. If he refuses you then, you have a case on your hands for sure.
Tackling the obstacle about keeping secret about your incontinence is not a difficult one, though, it may seem so initially. What you do is try to change in bathrooms that only have a single toilet if you can. While in the bathroom, run the water while changing. This way, a nosey person who stands outside the door will not hear you tear the tapes off your diaper during changing. When you are done changing, dispose of your diaper in a brown paper sandwich bag because sometimes, people can be nosy enough that they will want to look into the trash to see what you threw away. Some have nothing else better to do than to mind other people's business. So, to keep them from minding yours, you have to be careful and take care of things in this fashion.
Now let's say that you are not able to change yourself in a bathroom with a single toilet and that ones with stalls are your only option. What you'd do in this case is go to a bathroom in the building that you know for a fact is not frequented and take care of your business there. If there is not any, plan your changing breaks to occur during times of the day when the bathroom will be occupied the least. Of course, you'll want to dispose of the diaper in the same way as you would when changing in the single toilet bathroom, as the ones with stalls are more prevalent for nosey people who do not know how to mind their own business.
If you employ these strategies for managing your incontinence in the workplace, your life will be much easier and less stressful. You will also find that you are able to do your job better, as your secret is kept safe with yourself.
