Manan Trivedi and Jim Gerlach Running for Pennsylvania's 6th District

Pennsylvania's 6th district has been the talk of Democrats because of the way it splits up communities. Democrats have called it gerrymandering in the past. Despite its odd shape and splitting of townships, Pennsylvania's 6th district has once again become a very competitive area. Counties and townships included in the Pennsylvania's 6th district are Berks County which includes forty-one townships and bororughs. Chester County which includes forty-three townships and boroughs. Lehigh County which includes one township and finally Montgomery County which includes thirteen townships and six boroughs. Where Manan Trivedi stands on education issues is very important to the children of today, the future of tomorrow. Manan Trivedi has expressed the need to change to NCLB (No Child Left Behind). While he does not discredit the whole program, he shows understanding in the areas where NCLB has seriously failed both students and teachers and aims to change this. As I've mentioned in other op/ed pieces, the NCLB has failed students miserably because they now spend most of their classtime only on what will be tested on the PSSA's, completely ignoring some basics. One teacher even admitted this to me at a parent teacher conference when I asked why basic writing skills were not included in my son's curriculum. This is just one of four main changes Manen would like to implement if elected. when it comes to Government waste, Manan plans on cutting his own and the rest of congress' pay by five percent and getting that money back to the taxpayers. He feels it is wrong that while the citizens are struggling to get jobs and stay afloat, congress continues to recieve pay raises.

Upon trying to enter Jim Gerlach's website it appears as though you need to sign up to enter, the same way Tom Corbett's site was. Two out of two republican's sites setup this way so far. At the very bottom small print you can find a spot to enter without signing up. Again, as with Tom Corbett's site, you are immediately bombarded with smear tactics and ads. Across the top where you choose what you want to see, it has his bio, his "story" and how to volunteer for him. You have to a little more digging on Gerlach's site to find his stance on the issues of the election. Even then, it is basically a smear campaign, with exaggerations of Manans are next to his. Not standing alone on his issues at all. Under these issues, education is not mentioned once, so I cannot compare that. As for Government waste, he and Manan agree on no more pay raises for congress, but he mentions no cuts in congress salaries. Other than that, the only solid stance he says he is taking financially is by supporting the stimulus. At no point in the issues section of his website does it mention slashing government waste.

In my article: "Where Gubernatorial Candidates Stand on Government Waste and Education", I explained the importance of casting your vote, particularly in this coming election on November 2nd, 2010. I hope that by introducing you to the candidates running and what they stand for it will make it easier to take a stand, let your voice be heard and vote. I compared the two candidates sites with as much open-mindedness as possible, but with both republican sites dancing around the issues, using smear tactics and ads instead of getting down to business it was very difficult. I find it very hard to trust anyone that relies on smear tactics and makes you dig for the facts. Please take the time to visit the sites yourselves and compare the difference. Jim Gerlach's site and Manan Trivedi's site. In the end, what matters most to me is everyone getting informed then getting out there and using our American right to vote no matter where you stand on the issues and no matter what party you are for.
