Mandatory Flu Shots. Will You Take One?

If you are a health care worker or work in or around health care facilities, should you take a flu shot because the boss says its mandatory? The struggle continues for the rights of the health care workers to simply say no to the flu shot. More and more facilities are toying with the thought of making flu shots mandatory for all who work for them. Take the mandatory shot or find a new job.

While everyone is for responsible actions by health care workers, can this be accomplished by good hand washing? Following the dos and don'ts with coughing and sneezing? Or should everyone take the mandatory shot? There have been some exceptions for religious beliefs, health problems, etc.

If you think its a good idea to have mandatory flu shots, will you think its okay to have other mandatory rules for employment in place? Would it be okay to have a mandatory rule about drinking or smoking after work? How about a mandatory rule about what you drive and whether or not it is efficient enough? If you open the door for this mandatory flu shot, what could the consequences be?

If you are against the mandatory flu shot, your choices may be either take the flu shot or lose your job? Which will you pick? In this economy, it would seem that officials have the upper hand as jobs are hard to come by. How far are you willing to go to escape the flu shot? Or will your decision be based more on the premise that you have a right to dictate what happens to your body? You may think that your freedoms are being impinged by the mandatory part of the flu shot. What if the mandatory shot to save your job turned into a mandatory shot for your entire family in order to save your job?

Will new health care "ideas" turn into mandatory rules? In order for you to keep a job, will you have to be screened for tobacco, fatty foods, reach a mandatory number on cholesterol, blood pressure and body fat? Will mandatory flu shots stop at the worker or carry on to his family? Does it matter?

I smoke, have a beer once in a while and am thin for my height. 90% of my food is made from scratch and not from a can or a box. I eat my veggies and fruits. My blood pressure is low. I do NOT take flu vaccinations..ever. Should I lose my job over a mandatory flu shot? Should you?
