Mandatory Sunday Sabbath: Will History Repeat Itself?

Banner Kidd
I was in a Meijer store recently and encountered a young lady, probably late teens, at the check-out lane. I overheard her talking to the couple in front of me. I couldn't quite make out what they were talking about and wondered what it was. I didn't have to wonder very long. When I stepped in front of her as she began ringing up my purchases, she asked me, "Would you like to hear the question of the day?" I said "Sure, why not." She asked, "If the government were to enact a law that made Sundays mandatory no work, and all businesses were to be closed except the essentials - hospitals, grocery stores, gas stations, etc., so that people can have a day of rest with their families, would you support it or boycott it?"

My first response, after the shock wore off, was I really didn't care what they did. She went on to ask me why. My reply was that there was already a day provided and why couldn't we take advantage of that day. I told her that day was Saturday. She didn't know quite how to respond to that. I went on to tell her that Saturday, the seventh day, is the Sabbath of the Lord according to the Bible. She said she didn't think the Bible said specifically what day is Sabbath. I told her to read Genesis and throughout the Bible and she would find it plainly stated. The man behind me piped up quickly and said, to my surprise, "What are you going to do when it is plainly stated in the Bible?" He went on to tell her what I was going to say; "The Christian church, the Catholics changed the day to Sunday." She looked shocked! She stammered and then replied that she had "read the Bible, like ten times" and had never read that. Then she went on with the tired old arguments we've heard many times. The calendar has been changed and we can't know which day is the Sabbath and so we can just pick a day, etc. I explained to her what the Bible says about the one who would come, in opposition to the Truth of the Word and change the times - the appointed times of YHWH. It was clear she had never heard that before. I explained to her, she should go back and read it again, because she will see that Jah set His calendar in place and it is not too difficult to know. I explained to her that, thought the calendar, as far as months, and names of months and days, and the beginning of the year had been changed by men, a little research will show that the days of the week have been the same since the beginning. The gentleman behind me quoted the commandment that says, "In six days you shall work and the seventh is a day of rest." As I was leaving, I encouraged her to check it out for herself. I hope she does.

The fact is that many are ignorant of history and the Bible and they believe whatever has been told to them - a lie. But I am encouraged that there are those out there who do have some Truth. I have some, not all, but some. But what I don't know I do know where to go to get it. Apart from His Word there is nothing but lies.

Now as far as the Sunday Sabbath law, I'm afraid I gave her the wrong answer, and I regret it. My response to the government of the United States setting up a mandatory day of rest is NOOOOOOOO!!!!! The whole set up of paganism in the professing church goes back to a government mandate.

In the third century, the Emperor Constantine made it illegal to observe the seventh day Sabbath, making it illegal to do so, and making the law of the land Sunday Sabbath. This was in obeisance to his god Mithra - the god of the sun. He then made Catholic Christianity the state church, brought in pagan holidays like Christmas and Easter and we're still there today. The so-called Protestant Church does not protest enough. She is still wrapped up the Catholic paganism today. So to have our government mandate any day, even Sabbath, as a mandatory day of rest is something to be avoided.

I observe seventh day Sabbath because I love Jah (Jehovah, Yeshua, Jesus) and want to obey His commandments. He established the Sabbath in Genesis and you will find it throughout the Bible, but note especially in Genesis and Exodus. In Exodus He wrote it in stone! You've heard the saying, "It is set in stone?" Well that is where it came from.

So where do you stand? Would you go for a mandatory day of rest, be it Sunday or any other day? I wouldn't and I would especially speak out against Sunday, the venerable day of the sun. There are stories on line of a conspiracy to do just that. I don't know if they are true or not, but I do know that the time is coming, according to Jesus (Yeshua) that will look just like the time of Antiochus Epiphanes. Antiochus was the man who took over Israel and mandated that Torah observance end under the threat of death. Sabbath keeping, avoiding pork, and the Feasts of the Lord were to be rejected and the pagan practices of Antochus were to be embraced. If you didn't, you were to die. So it may sound far fetched, but the day is coming that something similar will happen. And if you believe the lie that YHWH has changed and His Law - Torah has changed you will embrace this man of lawlessness, the Anti-Christ and be condemned because of it.

I encourage you to do some real study of history and the Bible. Use the internet for historical research, or go to your school library or public library. You don't have to look to hard to find the Truth.

Excellent story! Some people follow Bible teaching, some follow human traditions. Hopefully more people will read your story!

It's crazy how despite all of the evidence people will still argue with you about what day is really the Sabbath especially when all of the "evidence" they have for Sunday worship is not sound and inconclusive. I don't know about you but I'll be happy when the government outlaws true Sabbath worship and demands Sunday to be kept cause that means Jesus is almost here!

Enjoyed your article. I don't like the government mandating anything! I agree with you there... No matter what day you pick, or what interpretation of religious material followed, it's simply not going to apply across the board. I really got a laugh of how you (and the other guy) had to explain things to that women. Just because a pastor in some random church preaches a sermon, it doesn't make the information "gospel." Some people are like lemmings, blindly following the crowd. Takes courage to speak up & your advice to read the Bible was appropriate. Whether it's Saturday or Sunday (or some other day,) I'm NOT comfortable with the government mandating behavior for everyone.

    Have a heart? It's only natural. --

But what is "natural" for us? --

To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life & peace, as the carnal mind is hostile against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh _cannot_ please God. --

See also Matthew 7:21-23 ("iniquity" is from "anomia" which means "lawless") or the early parts of 1John 2.

Walking the path between traditional Christianity and traditional Judaism requires focus. Keeping our eyes on HIM, the Author and Finisher, is the ONLY Way to keep from falling! May those who are hearing HIS call to "come out" in these last days, do so!

The Bible has little to do with it as far as I'm concerned - my libertarian side says if I want to respect my religion that's my job.

Thank you for helping to expose the pagan origins of SUNday worship.

May every professing Christian reject Constantine's SUNday and return to the Faith once delivered, following Jesus' example in keeping the seventh day Sabbath of the Lord our God, just like the early Church of God faithfully did and the Sabbath-keeping Church of God continues to do.
